Wow. That’s a lot of water to change 2-3 times a week but maybe I need to step it up. By good to go I meant nitrates and nitrites reading 0, ph right at 6.8, and ammonia reading zero. However, I just took a reading right before typing this and it looks like my ammonia has risen to .25 ppm which is a concern. There’s some left over food that was hiding behind the pump before. Maybe that’s the culprit. I’m not sure. What do you advise?

And yeah I need more bio media. I’d like to eventually do a setup using k1 but for now I’ll just get some more lava rock or maybe those pot scrubber things
You should be reading nitrates, if not then your tank is not cycling correctly and you will hit problems.
Add more media and preferably seeded media from an old tank.

Interesting. Perhaps it was a faulty reading? This media should be ok. I'll take another test tonight and let you know what it reads at.
