2 fx5's for 250-300gal ?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
honestly I think 2 ac110's and 3-4 big sponge filters stacked on poweheads would be BETTER THAN 2 fx5.s and.... way cheaper...:)

I already have 2 fx5's on my 130gal tank at the moment one came with the tank when I bought it and other I basically got for free :)

at that point add 1 ac110 for mech. and call it a day ....it will be enough....:)

I'll likely make sure I get a tank that's drilled and sump ready if I buy new and first start off with just the fx5's and see how it is, and then I can always add a sump later at whichever time I want or need ... Unless I go the route of a used tank that comes with sump

If you guys post to help please mention what ya think is not enough filteration when posting and make a suggestion to a size of sump needed, no one is really suggesting a size for sump or being specific on what isn't enough and what is and etc....

two fx5 would be good filtration for the 300 gallon tank, however, you wouldn't be able to keep many fishes. i'd say 3fx5 or 2fx5 and a big sump above 50-60 gallons... do some research on sumps with chambers for K1 media. i heard they work really well compared to the old fashion wet/dry sumps

Ok now i am not going to say it is good for the life of ur fish because 2 fx5s are not enough for those fish when they mature.... BUT... I have a barebottom 300g and running 2 fx5s and a powerful powerhead and they do extremely well... (For now).... But i also do 50 gal wc every other day and clean each filter once a month but not both on the same week... N i will not lie sometimes they do get ugly inside those filter... I got tired of cleaning all the filter foams that i have been buying new ones everytime i clean them out.... So all in all its ur call if the fish are small go for it for now but u will HAVE TO KEEP THOSE FX5s CLEAN..... My advice to u is start wit a sump.... I m a noob to sumps but have been researching on them and will be adding about a 50 or 55 gal sump in the being of the year.....

Good luck on ur new tank!!!! 👍👍👍

the fish i plan on keeping are as follows 2 oscar (have), 1 ocellaris pbass (have), and maybe one orino IF i can find one, one silver arowana, possibly a RTC if i can even find one, and my BGK(have)

A couple of 50g rubbermaids should fit under an 8' tank...

300g ive been thinking about is 72x36x27......... and normally when i do weekly water changes i change out a GOOD amount, 70-80% as much as possible, and i plan on running a pair of aqueon 2400gph powerheads on each end of the tank, and also have 4 maxi jet 1200's i can put on the back wall, as well as the one fx5 has a 62" spray bar that i can swap out for a longer one easily so water flow/circulation shouldnt be a problem with that being said lol

A rubbermaid 50 or 100g stock tank might work under their as well, cinse you're planning on a wide tank. Or do the 2 50g rectangular ones front and back.

The more sump the better...
