2 Tanks , 1 Fx5 !

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I could work if the tanks were stacked. You would need the top tank to over flow into the bottom one. The FX5 would draw water from the lower tank and return it to the upper tank.

No. No need to say more.

Typical canister filters are not designed to deal with true head pressure... So unless the FX5 is (which I have never read/heard) then I would not suggest using it in place of a water pump...

This is the only way I could see it working.

You wouldn't get mechanical filtration in one of the tanks though.

A waste of time imho and a lot of effort if the tanks are not already stacked.

get an ac110 for both tanks for less than the cost of an fx5 and have filtration for both tanks?

But i already have the Fx5 on 1 tank , so i would only really need to buy a better Filter for the other tank which is currently Filtered by a rubbish internel Filter .

I am just trying to save abit of money , so i was thinking on just using the Fx5 for both tanks if i could split the pipes to both tanks , or if i could maybe make 1 big Filter for both tanks but as the tanks are on the floor i wasnt sure if a Sump type Filter would work .

As explained in previous posts.... it could work but will hold several risks... Personally saving the money on a second filter isn't worth the risk... but that's your decision to make...

To make a sump for two tanks on the floor you will have the same issues with creating a balance with siphon tubes and run the same risks of overflow... so naturally my response is the same... not worth the risk...

Ok not going to risk it then , i guess im just going to have to save up for a 2nd better Filter for the other tank .

Yes I would agree, this is not how/what it's designed for. Maybe if you could place the tanks side by side with one just a couple inches higher to overflow into the other tank. With this setup it would be closer to how it was designed.

Anyway you look at it, probably a loosing proposition:nilly:
