2 Tiny Black Aro's with yoke sacks

Ok, so I visited a LFS that opened up about 6 months ago and guess what I find. If you haven't figured it out re-read the title. I had a $40 store credit because I turned in some African Cichilds someone gave me. I ended paying $13-$14 dollars for both Black Aro's ($24.99 each times 2 + tax - $40 store credit= just a little over $13). This sounds like a very good deal since I bought my other Black Aro about 3 years ago for $50 without an yoke sack and maybe a half inch bigger. The little guys are about 2 inches one is slightly larger than the other. As mentioned both have yoke sacks and one looks like it is getting ready to detach. So my question is do I wait until the egg sack detaches before i begin feeding them food? The first Blk Aro I had, still have him and he is about 23-24inches, didn't have an egg sack so I just fed him freezed dried krill and eventually pellets. They are currently alone in a 10gal fry/hospital/growout tank and can eventually moved to a 20gal or 40gal breeder then an 80gal growout, finally in a 180gal or 300gal. So if you can answer my question about the yoke sacks, since I'm not familiar with Aro's this super young, and any info, suggestions, recommendations, or links to other post about this is greatly appreciated. I did a search and got some info, but not sure if I used the correct search criteria. Thanks in advance.

Doubt it that they are black aros but i hope they are for u. good deal. but yolk sacks generally mean that theyre frail, and were collected byh killin the father who holds the fry. Good luck.

Crazy you found some with yolk sacks. I was under the impression they were illegal to collect that young. Can you post some pics? It will feed off the sack for a while. Then start them out with tiny pellets or brine shrimp, blood worms, etc. Keep the water pristine to help them develop properly. They will grow slower than the silver arows too.

Are arowana fathers mainly not killed now when yolk sack babies come around?

I would hope not. Probably just the jerks that do that, if there indeed is a way to just pry em out.

I don't think killing the father is necessary in obtaining fry with attached yolk sacs. All tehy do is obtain a holding male, then pry the mouth open, rock the fish back and forth in the wtaer with mouth open and the fry flow out with the water... male is released.

But then again, IF these are wildcaught, that means that the male had to have been captured. Netting won't be so easy as seen in aro farms to harvest fry, so I'm assuming that other means are necessary here. Perhaps they really do kill the male... like spearing or other methods? I mean, how else are they going to get the male in the wild? Do farms currently breed blacks?

Very nice. I have a silver from egg sack. Anyhow, I waited till my aro's egg sack fell off....then I started to feed crumbled up hikari food sticks, then after he after he started to get sick of them a month and a half later I started to vary the diet up more with FD brine shrimp and FD blood worms . ( I used hikari food sticks as long as possible at first for the balanced nutrition) Amonth after that I started to also use FD shrimp and live crickets gut loaded with carrots and flake food/crumbled hikari food sticks. I try not to feed GL feeder too often though. Anyhow, what I do like is KNOWING what your aro is consuming and also how colorful it makes it. PUT UP SOME PIX!

I'll try to post some pics tonight after work. I'm pretty sure they are Blacks, even though LFS had them labeled as Silvers. They have a very dark black fins with a hint of yellow and the body is half light black, the top half, (I assuming due to the stress of the fish), and their is a yellow line down the middle of the body. The lower half is more dark grey silver, but looks very similar to my other baby Black, just not as dark. Once I have some pics up we should be able to confirm if they are Black or Silver. I'm 99.99% sure they are Black.

u can wait till the yolk is gone b4 feeding. some people feed them even with yolk but very lightly.
