3 dwarf puffers
4-6 neon tetras
1 snail (large) (puffers to control babies)

what else???
Firstly, what species of snail? And how can you be sure that they are going to multiply with only 1 snail? I've had a group of 6 large mystery snails but I never saw a hint of egg's in the 9 months I had them.
The puffer's may also view the neons as a food source and tear them to shreads.

cardinals? are a bit prettier than neons, neons are half striped with color, the body of a cardinal is full colored but same colors....usually they carry both so compare!...and they always look good in a group/school...non agressive too...watch out for mixing non agressives with agressives...barbs generally can be pretty nippy...as gourami as well...ya might be resupplying the tank often! lol

Ok cardinals it is, I odnt know where you are getting the barbs and gourami from

I agree too! Convicts it is.
Any cichlid nicer looking than a convict he thinks they are ugly

Mystery snails but the puffers will eat the babies will they not???
I will maby add the puffers and put a rosey red mino in there to see if they attack it or not

Edit: Ok I guess it is a no go on the puffers he just got back from the pet store and they are a little pricy for him 6.50 apiece so he is probably going to go with the neon tetras as cardinals a 2 bucks more (4$) so that'll elimate the snail too

so so far it is 4-6 neon tetras
4 albino corries (black gravel = lookin sweet)

Needed - algage eater
more fish (top)

well a nine year old hmmmm and no mean fish live bearers are always a good choice that was my own first fish ive grown up with fish though my dad used to breed african cichilds mostly electric yellow and frontosa

Ok so my brother just got his first fish tank (20 gallon) and he has no idea what kind of fish he wants in it and he keeps changing his mind so we have ~2 weeks to decide on fish till the tank is cycled any ideas that would be entertaining for a 9 year old, The tank does have some live plants (3) cabomba and some rock decorations, the tank is a tropical tank any ideas and ill do a search and see if he sees any he likes

Thanks

As the old sports above have mentioned, your brother could breed convicts or rams. However, considering how young, and presumably inexperienced he is, he should probably get a community tank. Most tetras, (for example neon tetras, black skirt tetras) will do great, as well as gouramis, corydoras, or other small and peaceful fish.

I agree with any dwarf cichlids. I would go with german blue rams, but any type of ram or kribs would look excellent too. As an added bonus, rams and kribs can be kept with community fish as well, so you wouldnt be limited to "just" cichlids.

As if cichlids aren't enough, lol.

The only problem anout the dwarf cichlids are is that I have never seen any here none of the LFS have ever had them I even want a pair or 2 for my 55 but i cant find them anywhere except off the internet but my father wont let me

but I thinkl he will get the 4-6 neons when the tank is cycled then the corries maby by then we will have more to go with but thanks for the help everyone and I will be back soom with possibly som updates

Edit: When I grabed a bunch of plants i just so happend to pick up a zebra danio hidding in the plant the taank has been cycling for almost a week (5 days) with one of my old filter pads and tank water so maby even by sunday the tank will be ready

Ok so we put 3 Zebra danios and r probably going to go get some fish neons and corries sunday or munday maby even post a pic after we get them in!!

Unless you have algae, then why would you want to get an algae eater? You could get a smaller plec as a feature fish, but you must feed it.

For some reason all the tanks in our house get bad algae, My 55, and 10's have an algae problem so just want to plan ahead since his is already starting a bit (its brown algae)
