200 gallon tank.. the next step

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I see one problem with having an over head "sump". When the power goes off, where does the water go? The aquairum if kept full will over flow all over the place. A properly sized sump that sits under your stand will not over flow. Why not use the open space of your sump as a refugeum? plants, equipment, I am sure you can find good use for them. Even placing sick or injured fish in there to heal and get better. Sumps are great, for large systems the only way to go.

so two options for a 210g would be wet/dry and canisters.. canisters easier to operate.. wet/dry a bit cheaper to run and more variables.. but filtration wise which has the upper hand.

hEY WyldFya got a pic of ure refugium setup??

Actually if you are running a w/d sumpless when the power goes off only a gallon or less should go to your tank, which unless it's a 5 gallon, it isn't going to overflow. My 55 is up to the rim, and doesn't overflow at all.

NOW U GOT IT:)

Filtration wise the W/D has it hands down, you can have more media, and also a refugium in a w/d, which can't be done on a canister. Also a drip system keeps water quality in great ranges, as well as not needing water changes as often if at all.
