200g ply wood build

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
ha. well I'm gonna have to save that site if I'm ever looking for solar panels. For that price, it's worth ordering overseas. I'd prolly pay double that for a decent panel over here. No one uses solar power except for the wealthy people so it's still pretty expensive over here. I'm sure price will drop as the popularity grows. You get a huge return from a solar panel and it basically pays for itself I would think by saving money on your electric bill

true.

for those lucky enough to have their roofs pointing in the right direction (had to be pointing a certain way to get it fitted free from the government) it has been said that....whilst they are not using the electricity that is generated the surplus is fed back into the national grid and makes them applicable to recieve like for like discounts on their total bill!

ie, if i feed in 100kw over a given time i recieve 100kw discount.

in conversation i have been told that the system currently available for purchase to predominantly run ur home costs around £3,000 + fitting
quite pricey but after around 5 years you will have recieved all that back in savings and then you start to be able to get profit on it.

when we eventually move to our next place its gonna be high on my list of priorities.

i have even seen pictures of privately owned solar power farms... in peoples back gardens!

oh the tank.....

cladding is done, will post pictures when it is stained (tomorrow)

plumbing is done. slight issue. the pump arrived this morning....housing was cracked...gonna see if i can get a discount on it!!!!

so jobs for tomorrow...

get the power sander on the canopy cladding to smooth

stain the cladding wood (ebony) (the tank wood that will be exposed is being coated in white dyed epoxy. going for a super smooth fininsh! i may even paint it with car spray paint and then lacquer it)

attach handle to removable front panel

fix decorative beading to corners and removable panel

fill any exposed screw heads or pins

attach hinges to the feeding ? access flap

plaster the bathroom......Yeah right! thats what the mrs thinks!

I have heard of something like that before over here, but I believe it is only if the government provides the panels? I may be wrong, but I believe that's what I heard. I am going to start looking into a lot more though. I'm actually glad you brought up the topic of solar energy. It definitely put more ideas in my head again lol.

and as for the tank progress, it sounds like its going good................... now................................... where's the pics?!?! :D

pictures to follow soon.

had a couple of lazy days and didnt do anything!

update!

cladding has all decorative beading on and it has been stained once and will get the second coat l8r

tank and sump have had the corners fibreglassed. and im just off to sand down what needs sanding and then slap on the the final coats. at least the sun is shining.

fingers crossed..... pictures tomorrow, glass ordered tomorrow and test fill early next week.

tip of the day! ive built more than my fair share of tanks over the years and i find if you add some food colouring to the tank and then add the water any water you find that is from a leak, rather than spillage or condensation will be tinged with the food colour. you don not need much. just enough to show up on a white tissue!

very good idea on the leak test. people do similar tests on car engines. there's a UV dye that goes in the oil that will glow under a blacklight that way you can see where the leaks are. you have the same idea, just with food coloring and water lol im going to have to try this when doing the leak test on my tank if I ever get to finish it lol

"if I ever get to finish it"

i hear that buddy!

ive changed what i want for the finish and its added a few too many days to the build. BLOODY WEATHER

its gonna look sick tho!.
