2010 RTC Growing Contest

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ya he like them. Rtc's do eat fruit in the wild. Actually just got back from the sushi bar and brought home a few baby octopus for him. Really seamed to like them. Poked his head all the way out of the water for the 2nd one. Lol

Andy you got any ideas of how I can get mine on a good growing cycle, he seems reall sluggish, and doesn't eat as much as he used to, any ideas? what other foods should I try?

Use massivore and Talipia or shrimp. If you use masivore get it wet and squish it into a ball just big enough for him to eat. Talipia is the best IMO sense its cheap, and healthy. Also give him random things like I do. I feed mine every night with tilipia fillets until hes full (when he no longer comes to up for food) but he gets random treats like banana, worms, massivore, tadpoles, octopus today, shrimp, scallops and other crap at random times during the day or night. I would say the number 1 thing in growth is water. I do a 50% wc every 2 weeks in the pond but when he was in the grow out I had the drip setup to change 40% a day. My ID sharks have doubled in size because of the frequent change over in water. Water is on top with food quality in growth factor IMO

Will there be a follow-up contest to see who can find a suitable home for them when they get to 4 or 5 feet? These are some of my favorite fish, but it seems like most people don't have the space for them when they get older. It's a BIG problem.

Your tank should be big enough for u to swim with them if u feel the need.

No offense meant. Kudos to those who are doing it right.

I will try to take a pic of the RTC at this fishstore near me called "Ocean Floor" this guy is about 4-5' long and easy 65+ lbs in a HUGE tank right in front of the store
