205 gallon Amazon blackwater tank

Did someone really suggest a RTC in a 205 gallon tank?... i'm gonna bite my tongue so i'm not banned for a month... anyways.. you could do a zebra shovelnose(24")or a lima shovelnose(18"). although i think i read somewhere that the zebra's have been known to get huge over 30+(might of been a hybrid) and i think the lima won't get larger than 24"

can't wait to see pics!! pike are awesome fish as well!! i have a spot faced pike and it's a beast!! ridiculous when it chases the ghost shrimp i feed it... i think they only max out bout 16"

Those are all pretty sweet fish. Do you have pics of your pike?

I'll try to keep my stock fairly small and fairly low since I want the tank to look roomy...

The pike is cool, its name is spike because its back(usually smooth) spikes up in a attack mode.... its instigating in that 2nd picture, but really just doesn't stand a chance against my texas and has gotten pretty cut up in the past... they don't go at it at all really... just try to punk each other once and a while. sorry about quality just snapped them quick

After watching some penguin tetras for a while I decided I'm too annoyed by their / swimming attitude, so if anyone wants to recommend some other tetras I'd like to hear. :D
 
lol you live in new zealand.... can you even obtain half these fish??

Get some malaysian dw and no carbon in filter, your tank will be nice and "blackwaterish"
I had a HUGE piece in my 55g and it took a ton of carbon/water changes to get the yellow out and it took 6 months.

Discus and schooling fish would be fun in that tank, just need more decorations for Discus IMO.
 
I think amazon/blackwater type tanks are always cool! Yours is one of them. Of course pics are always welcome!
 
Do not put any spotted Metynnis in the tank. They will gnaw your plants down to stubs.
I had a group of 8 in my 180G, took them back and swapped them for some Geophagus after about two weeks. In that time they had eaten all of my Hygrophila and 75% of my Vallisneria. I liked them, they're interesting fish, they're entertaining to watch, but they do not mix well with plants. In the end I decided I like plants more than I like spotty silver dollars.

If it were my tank I'd stock it with Geophagus, 8+ angelfish and a school of diamond tetras. A black ghost knife should mix well with that combination too, mine does. Diamond tetras are a larger growing species which don't seem to be as easily preyed upon by a ghost knife.
I don't get the appeal of catfish, large ones in particular. :P
