Like I said- if theres some interest it doesnt end yet-
So, for the filter theres a really big rubbermaid- at least 45 gallons with a hole in the top for a 30 gallon rubbermaid to fit 1/2 way through- and that 30g sits on a milk crate to keep it out of the water thats in there. In the 30g is filled to the top with pot scrubbers, and over them is an a/c screen that chet can get- the a/c screen is like a mix of filter floss and that japanese matting stuff- it works very well. The only other thing in the sump is the return pump, its a vey big "Quiet One" I cant see the size easily or Id tell you, but what I can tell you, is so far I dont think its any quieter than any of the other return pumps thay I have or had. Im also borrowing a good sized canister from chet.
I think my problem is that this tank doesnt have a timer yet- so it stays on way too long at times, which gives me frequent, mild, floating algae blooms. The tank has a middle of the side overflow with a footprint of about 6"x6" so it could be used as a room divider, I guess- Im mentioning the size because my 8", arowana body slime eating fei feng got into it, and then trapped under the 2 big bursa stand pipes (Chesters girlfriend had the skinniest hands we could think of and she got her out) I had never heard of a FF eating body slime before and wouldnt have believed it, but I gave her three chances and all on a full belly, but she would not leave my 13" black arowana alone- so I put her in the tropical pond out back. I checked on her that evening and she looked miserable so my last choice was in with the 2' jardini- this is something I wanted to avoid because Ive grown her from like an inch long with no color at all except the black horizantal bands that juvies have, and really liked her, and the jar had already tried to kill an 8" NTT but I got him out and put him into chets datnoid tank of blackness and instability. He still tries to kill a niger and giraffe cat daily but not his feeders- they are thriving, and so is fei- shes doing very well in there. Something Ive noticed with all the jars that Ive had, is that the jar will swim quickly up to a fish, and if the fish tears off in fear, then its game on for the jar- until the fleeing fish is dead. If the future victim doesnt notice or just doesnt care the jar will just swim off, it might try a few more times, but if the attacked fish is cool then so is the jar- Ive had at least 5 jars, all of them agro and all of them grew over a foot, so I think Im onto something with that
