I forgot to add i like that our males dont have huge humps. I like the steeper profile foreheads

Yeah, it's interesting to see how individual fish of the same species develop differently. I do believe the humps and overall body mass comes with age though.

Im jealous of both of you with your male pearsei! My female is a solid 14" for sure. This was confirmed when she got her 300g tank and was measured at that point. I love the nuchal hump on the male pearsei and if I ever had to replace mine I would raise a batch to get a male out of it.

J jaws7777 , I know we have talked about it before too but I would love a wc "Rio Lacanjah" with the more elongated body. I know you didn't like them but its on my pearsei wish list.

Had to add this
This has to be the largest pearsei I have ever seen a picture of:

Not mine, just a pic from the internet

How old is your female DMD? Like I said, mine are roughly 5 years old and my female is probably 12". They always look so much bigger out of the water though. I remember when I did an overhaul on my 220 and removed them for the first time in quite a while, I was shocked at how heavy and large they were.

Really hard to tell how large that fish is in the pic. The person's hands look very small, almost child-like.

I got mine from a buddy in October 2012. She was 5” at that point. She came from Cichlid Connection.

Here is her “baby” pic when by buddy had her. See her little self there in the lower left corner?

So you are thinking around 6-7 years old? She is an absolute chunk. What do you feed her?

I would say a good 6 1/2 to 7 years old for sure. She eats a Pellet diet that has a mix of this and that. Some Omega One algae wafers, Nls, Dainichi and what not.

Same here. Their staple is pretty much a mix of NLS and a Omega One veggie wafers.

Quick update including some good news and bad news...

Good news, the robertsoni have come full circle and are eating like pigs. They will absolutely devour flake food and are beginning to accept pellets as well which is a relief. I hate feeding flake as it just seems so messy.

Bad news, I came home yesterday to find the canister filter on my 40B, which is a SUNSUN, had leaked about 15 gallons of water on the floor. It has something to due with a power outage, as I had 3 SUNSUN's on my 220 and they ALL leaked after a power outage about a year ago. I should have thrown all 4 out the first time, but the one on my 40B did not leak last time. Lesson learned. It's now in the trash.

I do not have a spare filter to replace it with so all 5 young melanura made the jump to the 220 much sooner than I anticipated. I went ahead and ordered a couple sponge filters so I can keep the 40B up and running for future use when I begin dwindling down numbers in the 220.

Ugh sorry about the flood. I did the same but much much worse a few weeks ago.

How big are the melanura ?

Yeah, never fun.

The melanura are pretty small, with the largest around 3". I'm not really sure what my plan is with them yet. Perhaps keep a pair or a lone male. I'd just like something to help divert aggression from my male pearsei to the female. They get along well for the most part but he has his days...

Hopefully they'll be small enough to him not to be viewed as competition.
