240 Gal project with pics

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
:irked::(:( Well I took the tank last night and filled it up about 1/4 of the way to start letting it settle in, and this morning I noticed condensation under the tank on the styro.:confused::confused: What could this be.....well I found it to be comming from around 4 acrylic discs that were used to cover unused oveflows. After some investigation and gentle tapping I found these discs where not welded on, but were siliconed on.:screwy: seems someone forgot that silicone and acrylic dont match.
This may seem like a bad thing to some, but for me it just means now I have (2) more 1" bulkhead holes (more overflows???) and (2) more 1/2" bulk head holes ( drain or canister ?????) so what may seem like a bad thing is ok in the end. Now the project is delayed till I get more overflows and figure out a new filtration design with my new found holes.

Sorry I have not had much time for an update, but nothing new has happened till now. I have not had much time between work, and work at the house for my project  Here is some updates of what I got done today.

What you are looking at is my drain pipeing from the tank.
I have from left to right; 1" stand pipe, 1/2" drain line (water changes), 1" line with caps (Fx5 suction), 1" line with caps (Fx5 discharge), 1/2" drain line, 1" stand pipe.

This will give me about 1800gph filtering between the Fx5 and sump. I may add a small circulation pump, also I am qustioning if I want a UV sterilizer or not ???

I got the plumbing installed today and filled her up a little ways to test for leaks. As I said before I will be filling slowly over time to avoid any stressing.

Great job! Definitely go for a uv sterilizer but run it on a slower pump depending on size...It will help a great deal with parasites a lot of wild caught natives might have. Once again the tank looks GREAT !

Nice job man. 2"x6" are the way to go for any larger sized tank. I built my own as well. Keep it up, cant wait to see it finished! What are you putting in it?
