29 Gallon Community Tank Growout Thread

Hi Shadow,

I'd like to let you know that using loaches to clear your 341 liter of snails is not the best choice for 2 reasons:

1: As PFK nicely puts it:

www.practicalfishkeeping.co.uk/features/quick-guide-to-loaches/

2: Even setting that aside, for the reasons in the 4th sentence of my signature, it would be a very poor mix with the existing bichirs.

I suggest the assassin snails for that reason.
My 341l is already stocked to its limit for me. I don’t want to extend the stocking. Do you have experience with assassin snails? How many would kill 75 adults and 100+ little guys?

I have no experience with assassin snails, but I do have plenty with pond snails. And my guess based on said experience is that their lack of an operculum plus tendency not to burrow would make them easy prey.

Do you mean you're rehoming everything or literally deconstructing the 5 walls of the tank?

What went wrong?
The reason for tearing it down would help determine the best course of action.
I originally got it as a birthday present for my sis, but she doesn’t show interest or take care of it. I can’t let her have it. Algae is out of control, so I am tearing everything besides the tank down. I am still Keeping the remaining fish, though I can’t see what fish remain. I’m not sure where I will put it, but it is officially becoming my tank, so not in her room.

Good luck!

I have a couple questions…how do I clean the plants? How do I clean the rock? How do I clean the sand? I am going to fill it up with cycles water and use a sponge filter from a different tank to have all the water cycled

Don't know about the plants, but the abrasive side of a sponge ought to work for the rocks.
Sand I would just throw away, it's nigh on impossible to clean once gunk gets mixed with the grains.
