29 Gallon Electric Blue Jack Dempsey & Pleco Tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well only problem I run into with putting the Loaches in the 225 is I would have to purchase large ones. My Endlicheri Bichir can easily swallow a loach this size. I did have 3 at one time, but Ich killed one and the Endli ate the other. This guy was the only survivor. I may add one or two more though. Considering they're slow growers I could keep a few in this tank for a while atleast until I can get a larger tank setup for them. This current loach is no bigger than 2.5".

But thanks for the advice! I appreciate all the advice I can get.

UPDATED STOCK LIST

-Electric Blue Jack Dempsey Cichlid (Archocentrus Octofaciatus, var. Blue)
-Clown Loach (Chromobotia Macracanthus)
-Rhino Plecostomus (Glyptoperichthys Scrophus)
-Inspector Plecostomus (L201)(Hypancistrus Inspector)
-Spotted Rubber Plecostomus (L187A)(Chaetostoma Milesi)
-Clown Plecostomus (L104)(Panaque Maccus)

Is that Dempsey deformed? looks nothing like any of the ones I've seen in the LFS's.
Or do their heads change shape as they mature? either way some amazing bright colours on that guy. and you have a great collections of plecs, I only have a 18" common.

You have a very nice collection of fish.

thanks!

I believe he might have some sort of defect. One eye looks kind of sunk in. Not sure if he was born like that or if it was something that happened to him over time. I'm hoping it will straighten itself out once he gets bigger. They do change a bit as they mature though. Especially the color. Mine was almost entirely white when I got him and now he is solid blue with some black spots.

I also had a Common Plecostomus a while back, but he out-grew my 30g tank pretty quick. I wanna say he was about 14" when I got rid of him. He had trouble turning around in the tank due to the fact the tank is only 12" wide on the outside. The interior width is probably closer to 11.75". Now I like collecting the more exotic species. I end up spending a bit extra obviously, but I love Plecostomus' so to me they're worth every cent.

yeah my big guy is a real character Since I got rid of the rowdy cichlids that were picking on him and nibbling his tail etc he has really become quite friendly and interesting. I would definately get more of them if I could find some more interesting varieties. there is a 12" albino at my LFS that they want about 15 dollars for. I feel like if I don't get him he will only end up in someones 50g.

I never see many albinos around here except for the Albino Bushy Nose Pleco and the Long Fin variety. Any other Albino species seems pretty rare around here. I have been looking around for a Albino Rhino(Chocolate) Pleco, which if my memory is correct, I believe those are what are sold as Albino Common Plecos? I read this somewhere, but if it's true, I have no idea.

Well now this tank is also a Grow-Out tank. I just picked up two new Polypterus' and since they're juveniles they had to go into the 29g until they bulk up. These two will eventually go into my 225g with my Endlicheri and Senegalus.

-Ornate Bichir (Polypterus Ornatipinnis)
-Albino Nigerian Senegalus (Polypterus Senegalus var. Albino)

Those are some great looking Bichirs! You should join in this thread
http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?487100-quot-POLYRACERS-quot-GO!!!/page8

A guy called Hydrocyanide created it for anyone with a young ornate bichir, we are seeing who can get to 10" first. the more the merrier so would be cool if you would join in with your guy.
I'm not sure what kind of Pleco the albino one is it doesn't look like a common but it's hard to tell. I might end up picking it up. do you think my big one would get one okay with a smaller ?

Just posted in it. I'll try and keep up with the updates if I can remember, but if not you can always see them on this thread!

And as long as your Plecos have their own spots to hide and chill they should be fine. Mine are only aggressive to each other when one tries to get in the other's hiding spot. Some species can be overall aggressive, but it's mostly your more carnivorous/predatory Plecos.
