3" ABS/PVC overflow

no, I believe it will be quiet with the outlet pointing down to the bottom 1/3 of the tank, also more pressure down there, it will stay submerged and the 3" tube will act as an overflow if the power goes out...it takes up no more room that a boxed overflow and it will be easier to clean...
 
im not 100% on this... but if the tank is drilled... cant you put the 90 in the tank (pointed down) and a T on the outside with a vented cap... basicly making a dorso standpipe without the overflow??

all your really doing is raising your water level above where its drilled right? how are you goiing to thread it into your bulckhead? how are you gonna clean it?
