it would work, but would be no different than getting rid of the 3" abs and pointing the pvc 90 straight up to your desired water level.

well actually that will cause a toliet flushing sound...

so hes got a drilled tank?

yes back wall 1/3 the way down...

the only benefit i could think would be it acting as a sedamint bowl catching bigger stuff before the sump

no, I believe it will be quiet with the outlet pointing down to the bottom 1/3 of the tank, also more pressure down there, it will stay submerged and the 3" tube will act as an overflow if the power goes out...it takes up no more room that a boxed overflow and it will be easier to clean...

the black pipe is substituting for your standard in tank overflow, the pvc male threads into the bulkhead in the back wall of the tank.

correct...with the added bonus of being easy to clean...

unless you build a durso type setup with a vent somewhere its still goona be loud and not stay submerged IMO.

Now I have to build a 1" "Y" to bring the 2 outlets into my spraybar over the media...
Anybody ever seen a 1" PVC "Y" for sale?

im not 100% on this... but if the tank is drilled... cant you put the 90 in the tank (pointed down) and a T on the outside with a vented cap... basicly making a dorso standpipe without the overflow??

all your really doing is raising your water level above where its drilled right? how are you goiing to thread it into your bulckhead? how are you gonna clean it?
