3-Bars Indo or ST? Part 2

I have a dat with with 4 bars on one side and 2 on the other does that make it half IT half ST?

True, but I dont think thats the case with the Sticky. They are both awesome fish and I'm sure he loves them both. He just wants to know what he has-for himself, like he said earlier...

And also, I love my IT just as much as if I had an ST. To be honest, I like the more stripes that IT's have. I'd like to own an ST, simply because they're hard to find. But I'm not ready to pay the premium price tag for it. Until then, I'm perfectly happy with my split-bar IT

jcardona, SCIENCE, until recently, thought ITs and STs were the same fish. What Im pretty much saying is that a bunch of opinionated hobbiest fish keepers with no real scientific study or knowledge of these fish, let alone a degree in biology (well some of us may have it ) or icthiology are not qualified to ID these particular fish with 100% accuaracy. Therfore, their opinion is mute at best.

bushfishrox, if your 3-side, 4-side comment was half serious; give up. We are not talking about your common ITs. We are talking about two fish that legitamately could be either or.

I agree with T1, IT or ST they are QUALITY dats and the price shouldnt matter, and Im the one thinking about buying/or trading for them!!! I also agree with sticky that its nice to know what fish it is for sure. Unfortunately, unless we can get a real expert in datnioides that has dealt with these fish on a scientific basis to examine them first hand, and not some shmuck that has kept them for the past five years and thinks he knows it all, we will never know with 100% certainty what these fish are....at least IMO

I think if Blacktip knows his sources of these fish were legitimate, it points to ST more then IT though.

Until some one can say where these two fish were caught I dont think there is ONE person on this forum that can say for certainty what species these fish are from the pics. If you think you can, youre delusional.

I'm going to have to agree with you JD. I think identifying IT versus ST is similar to identifying a spotted gar versus a florida gar...you really need to know where it was collected. Same thing with African lungfish...depends on the locality of the fish.

I see where Sticky is coming from, but I also agree with T1...if it's a beautiful fish then in my mind it justifies the price. I have 15 ITs...some that have markings like Stickys, but to be honest, I'm not going to be concerned if it is IT versus ST...I'm just happy I have the dats.

But again, if Sticky is paying HUGE ST prices, then he has a right to expect ST.

I think the only safe way is to make sure you see the fish for yourself; if you cant; ask for a shibby load of pix from every angle; if your satisfied, spend that money...That way you can never be disappointed....

Well if you're thinking about getting these, I say go for it. As you said, they are very good quality with great color and pattern and these arent easy to come buy. IT, ST or whatever, at the end of the day what really matters is if you like the fish and its worth it to you, go for it.

I know I would if I had the cash.

2 of my six look just like the first one with the 2 body bars w/ indo tail and I was told it was an IT I am not going to argue about it because I am happy with them.

but if the past owner, current owner and apparently the future owner fight for them being true ST's even though it is "hard" to ID the pics (even though one is clearly an IT) then all I can say is awesome ST's there.

you might want to call Jerry Springer for a DNA test....

I am glad I didnt pay top ST dollar for them, as ST's are $100's more then IT's...
