In your extensive and educated experience can you please sir tell us how, from the pics provided, the first fish is "clearly" an IT?

I would love to hear you say something besides the number of stripes on the fish's cadual peduncle...

No offense bro, but I think that in this hobby, ID'ing a fish by its look is the way to go. People buy fishes for their look, when I pay for an ST, I want it to look like an ST. And by my criteria, the first fish is an IT:
- Head and mouth shape (long nose and peaked mouth)
- Body stripe pattern and height (2nd stripe from one side doest not curve right or taper down)
- Tail pattern (no need explaining)

So calling this fish an ST, because nobody can really DNA test him is a bit ridicule...

i think some of you don't get my point here.

your point doesnt make sense....

you are saying that just because you say so makes them ST's....

:ROFL:hahahha  blaahhahahha

although i have never kept any STs, i would NEVER listen to anyone who still ID them by the tail stripes!

BFR, I do not need to prove it is an ST. Im not the one saying it "clearly" is something.

Eken,

1. How can you be so sure from the pics? Blacktip said the first fish is actually taller!
2. Are we looking at the same fish? I see taper AND a swept back bar.
3. Tail pattern is NOT a good way to ID STvsIT!

Do I need to take the fish out and take more pictures? seem like the pictures i post is not enough.

Thing is Eken, like myself is not basing the decision only on stripe pattern. What about his first point, the body shape?? Stripes and tail pattern really dont mean much as tigers can have all sorts of patterns. Just look at the 2nd dat. Nobody is questioning whether that is an ST and on one side it has an IT tail pattern and an ST tail pattern on the other side.

Yes, they both have middle bars that come to a point and sweep backwards, but again, I dont think that alone is a good indicator. What gives it away for me, and lots of other people, is the body shape and longer snout.

BTW, I think this is a really good thread. Lots of good info/comparison on here. This should be the MFK dat ID thread!!

I agreed with dona1 this thread come out well.....it have many different side of opinion and thought. i would love to have more point of view in here. Im waiting for Micheal and H20 on this one since h20 had one like this and Micheal currently got one the same pattern.

keep it coming.

I'd guess the first one is a microlepis and the second one a pulcher.

I agree with this statement. I usually go by the way the head slopes as also described by someone else. In addition the way the middle bar sweeps to the belly.

The IT is a banging one. It looks to be stable. I've learned to date only to care about whether it's stable or not.The bars don't mean anything to me anymore. It's the quality of color is what catches my eye now a days. Even if it's a split bar, uneven bar, 2 bar , 4 bar as long as the color is stable (Goldish/Yellow) in color that's a keeper. It basically comes down to preference. As someone also mentioned. Don't dictate what you want to keep base on someone else's opinion . Keep what makes you happy.

I agree the second one is a ST but if you compare the one in question with the ST you will see the difference in body shape, the ST is thicker and rounder then the IT...

the only thing they have in common is the color which means nothing.
