With your level of experience I think Convicts would be the best fit for you. Just know that the fry are often very hard to get rid of. You can rarely sell them. Giving them away to an LFS or to some friends will help you unload the numerous fry. Stick with the Convicts and learn how to properly care for fish. This will prepare you to care for more difficult fish in the future. Another good idea is to read, read, read! You can never know enough about Cichlids and aquarium maintenance. I learn new things all the time from books, magazines, online sites, and other hobbyist. Studying the numerous sources of Cichlid information will give you a wealth of knowledge that will make keeping fish and making smart decisions a lot easier.

ok if you plan on doing nothing with the convict fry then dont bother breeding them. I used to use the fry as feeders. When someone suggest something to you, you dont have to say im gonna go with that and then 5 mins later say you want something someone else suggested. Pick a fish.
Okay, good idea My Oscar would love some feeders as a treat!

I do not have any freinds with tanks 20 gallons or larger. Well someone in my class has one but she has community fish. I might feed some of the fry to my 14 inch Oscar. thanks!!!!

Yep very friendly but a if you click on Oscaroo´s page and see started threads and read them a little I think you can see why people might not treat him so well, welcome to the forum anyway snake!

and Oscaroo why not go for Keyhole cichlids? they have great personalities, easy to keep and breed and you can mix them with lots of other community fish like gouramis, livebearers, tetras and barbs, catfish etc. Probably your best bet because you can always shift and alter the stock.

Ram cichlid pair.
