30 gallon tank, gimme some advice.

I would watch the eel getting nipped.

i don't think the firemouth will mess with the eel other than when it is sifting around as they do

Ya thats the one thing that worried me. But i presume that the firemouths should setup their own territory and the peacock eel probably will learn to stay out of it. I hope...

I've never had con's but i do currently have a pair of firemouths, and they are very very aggressive in my experience. I had a pair of them with a pair of juvenile oscars, all introduced together at the same size, and the firemouths had to be removed because I was scared that they'd kill the oscars. There were plenty of hiding spaces and plenty of room, the firemouths were constantly chasing the oscars, all day and night.

I now have them in a 37g which seems to be plenty of room, I plan on adding a few others to that 37, but i'm in no hurry.

Well i only plan on having these few fish in there. And the Ctenepoma is a fairly aggresive fish so i think it should be ok. Plecos wont bother them at all. I am just worried bout the eel, ill be sure to give it a good hiding spot tho.

so ive decided NOT to get the convicts but now im looking at some other species.
1st Choice: Firemouth cichlid pair
2nd choice. Blue acara pair
3rd choice. Salvini cichlid pair.
How are the acaras and salvinis? they seem they would work in the 30 and i do like the color schemes.

u think that 2 adult firemouths would get too big for the 30 gallon eventually? thats what worried me, cause they max out at around 6" while the convicts are a lil smaller i believe
you have your info wrong. firemouths get around 8" and convicts get around 6". firemouths are too big to have in that setup

ive actually researched it quite a bit and everyone says firemouths would work better with this setup and they max around 6", rarely ever getting 8"

you do what you want, you asked for advice and we're giving it. firemouths do get bigger than convicts very often and keeping two full grown ones in a 30g will result in territorial disputes and possible death of one of them
