300 Gallon Busted

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
That does suck.. I just don't see how it's the previous owners fault at all. Not like he could have predicted it would explode.

Way too many variables to go off blaming the guy who sold it.

Used tanks are like used cars. Sometimes they work out other times they don't.

Glad no one was hurt.

It sucks that the tank 'exploded' and it also sucks that you've lost $650, however i have to agree with VL design. So many factors could have affected its integrity. Euro bracing should have been essential to this tanks design imo, glass from what i can tell is extemely brittle and with little support it doesn't suprise me that it bowed to the point of explosion.
Where had the tank been previously stored before you went to pick it up?

Just out of intrest do you have home insurance? if so it should cover damages of this sort, if not its worth a try.

i doubt you'll get your money back, as that leaves the seller empty handed and tankless. Condolenses to you mate real shame, stick with the fish keeping though :)

Sorry to hear about the disaster. But try to look on the bright side.. you was wise enough to test in your garage first. A lot of people would have been impatient and that would have happened in their house instead. (maybe)

Its not a total loss. You can replace the broken glass and reseal the whole thing and then you'll have the piece of mind that all the silicon is new.

Have you checked with your home owners insurance regarding any damage it has caused?

So sorry to hear about this....It truly is a kick in the teeth.

About going to the seller for money back: Absolutely! Give him a call/email, see what he says! Don't expect anything though. You are not entitled to anything, **** happens. Hopefully he will give you back a hundred or so.

The item is used. I feel bad for you, but why should the seller suffer as well? The tank is worth the money (if the seller was honest). The seller (once again, if he was honest) had the tank up for four years, decided to sell it, and got a below average price for it. I don't see where anybody went wrong in this situation. Just bad luck, and we can only hope the seller tosses you a bone or two.

Best of luck man! Don't give up the hobby....

ya you cant really sue someone for selling you sometihng without a written consent.. but the seller may be wrong too for not filling the tank up

How did this thread get turned into all about sueing someone? ONCE again, no one is sueing anyone....sheesh....

Sorry for your mishap, glad no one got hurt.

Sounds like a pretty sketchy way to test a tank to me,flat level surface is the only thing I would ever fill a tank on.Chalk it up to an educational expense and move on.

damnn!! that totally suck bro!! Here is a advise, don't get any glass tank over 180 gallon. Anything over 180 gallon, you should consider arcylic.. is much safer!!

Glad no one got hurt.. GL

agreed 100 percent with the acrylics when it comes to big tanks

pricy they may be more than a glass tank but when it doesn't leak/break on you its money well invested and you're actually keeping your money in the long run
