300 Poly Paradise

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Nope. Been keeping polys since I joined mfk. Hell, been keeping polys almost as long as I've been keeping fish in general. I've been around here as well, just took a break from mfk for a while. Was more active in the cichla and catfish subs because I was running an indoor pond.

The polys completely ignore the snails except during feeding time when they accidentally get one instead of a shrimp pellet and immediately spit it out. As it turns out though, it appears the brown knife has met a different fate unfortunately. We knew it was a risk, and accepted it, but it appears the longfin decided to have a late night snack. She's by far the most aggressive in the tank during feeding time and is on her way to be the biggest as well.

But this also brings good news in a way, one of our concerns with the eel was it eating the knife....This is no longer a concern. So we'll see if it's still available after Christmas.

Oh I see, I took a break as well. from fishkeeping all together but you know how that goes. haha.

But, That's unfortunate. I would have thought the knife could have held its own with a sen, but im not too experienced with brown knifes. bittersweet I guess.

How big is the eel your looking at?

That's great to hear. Are you just getting back into keeping polys? i dont believe i've seen you around here (unless you changed your name or profile pic, I tend to associate the two haha)

but anyway you should definitely get the eel it would make a great addition to the tank. How are the polys with the snails i would assume they would try to eat them.

yeah polys tend to leave snails alone the only snail killer in my tanks is an L264 Sultan pleco

I think it's the longfin gene that causes them to eat their tankmates, my longfin has a taste for the mosquito fish in my tank eating atleast 60 in the last week

or maybe mosquito fish are delicious and your other polys haven't figured that out yet HAHA

I'm just glad I have a breeding colony in another tank. The tueg will occasionally be swimming around on a non feeding day with a stomach lump so I know she eats them. The problem with this genocide is that is all my butis butis will eat

Not much to update. The brown knife was definitely turned in to a snack. Experiment officially failed. :/ would've been nice but we're not really heartbroken. Added a colony of cherry shrimp as a different experiment. We'll see how that goes. Lol other than that snails and polys and plants are all doing great

I've got a real colony upstairs. But I totally agree. My thought/hope is they're small enough in a big enough tank they'll find places to hide and just be the occasional snack when found. But who knows. I haven't seen them since an hour after I dropped em in. And I'm not sure I'd be able to see them even if there weren't any fish. Lol
