300gal plywood paludarium project

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
That's great! man it would be hard not to over feed. with it being so much fun to watch that......

thats a very cool project. the background is stunning. have you thought about trapping some flies or other bigger flying insects in the paludarium for the archers? my oscar goes nuts for flies that I trap in my riparium, so I'm sure your archers would enjoy it even more.

Amazing build. It's inspired me to do one myself! i have a question, if you had to chose a biotope, which one does this closely resemble?

Thanks for the comments guys!

It looks like the shooter doesn't always get the meal.

Very true. I feel like the biggest archer doesn't shoot as much as some of the smaller ones. He's just really bold and often manages to grab food that the others shoot down.

Yeah, my old oscar used to love flies too. Not too many bugs about right now but maybe I can find some when the weather warms up.

It's not really much of a biotope - I was certainly going for a flooded rainforest forest look, but the plants and fish ended up being a mix from all over the world: Geophagus and flagtail from the Amazon, loaches and archers from Borneo/the Malay peninsula, Anubias and bolbitis from West Africa, bromeliads from South America, pitcher plant from the Philippines, plus a whole bunch of other plants from various places... it's pretty much a biotopic hodge podge.

Incidentally, I grew up in Dubai. I remember, back then, the Satwa and Sharjah pet souks used to have some pretty cool fish. I imagine the stores have changed a lot since then.

You've got some real talent....:D
Very nice build and stocking.

The Sharjah Animal market is best for equipment and tanks, not so much for livestock, they are poor. Satwa i haven't tried yet. There's a new shop open in Al Quoz near Burj Al Arab which is awesome. Slightly on the expensive side, but quality of livestock mathes that of UK or US stock.

I was aking about the biotope cos im planning a similar background with Angels, SD's and the like, so i was thinking South American, so im glad you said flood Rainforest!
