300ish Gallon plywood - First attempt

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've got a couple suppliers here locally. None of which I have worked with before. My father told me to stay away from one and they were 80 bucks higher anyways.

It's looking about 230 dollars or so for the piece of glass I need.

Maybe I'll get it for xmas. Who knows.

I first attempted to order this stuff on the 4th of December. The Ace is much better price then the only other place I can get it.

I know the wait is killing you. To get that far with it and to be stuck waiting is a killer.

Looking Great

Seems like all these plywood builds incorporate glass. Is there a reason ya'll prefer glass over acrylic?

Generally there are a few reasons, cost and adhesion or sealability (if that's a word). It's not easy to install an acrylic pane and get a good seal with silicone thus it's much easier to work with glass. Glass is also much less expensive for the most part as many of us use recycled glass (old cracked tanks or windows or whatever). But, truthfully it's the adhesion and installation of the acrylic that prevents most of us from using it, glass is an easier cheaper alternative for the most part.

I prefer glass because I have had an acrylic tank before and it is scratched pretty badly. I don't want to have to deal with that.

Also the piece of acrylic I would need for this size tank is about 2 times the cost of the glass.

Not really. Check with Laird plastics. My 2" 50"x99" cell cast acrylic was cheaper than rich's starfire 3/4" 36"x96" (if I remember dimensions correctly).

Use Dow 795 instead of silicone and sand the contact surface of the acrylic even if you choose to use silicone instead.
