Not really. Check with Laird plastics. My 2" 50"x99" cell cast acrylic was cheaper than rich's starfire 3/4" 36"x96" (if I remember dimensions correctly).

The key word there is Starfire glass which is much more expensive than regular plain jane plate glass.

If I remember correctly, I'd have to look through the thread. The same piece is "plain jane" glass was only $200-$300 less which still makes the 2" cell cast cheaper.

My local prices are $230 for regular plate glass, about 350 for Starphire, and 410 for the Acrylic I need.

The bluemax looks interesting but is only listed at 5 gallon buckets, which is much more than I need for this size tank.

Something else I will check out. Any which way this will be waiting a little while till after the holidays for the bigger parts. I will post up any progress I make. I'm going to use the time to finish the exterior of the stand and tank with my trim and maybe.plumb the system which would include the bulkheads and fittings.

So slowed down but not out. Stay tuned for another exciting episode soon.

Pond Coat from Permadri (their US company) is liquid rubber and is $57 ($75 a gallon shipped). It's better than Blue Max and dries black.

Did you contact the Laird Plastics nearest you? Local plastics companies are going to be near double what Laird is. Contact John Starret at the Houston office and tell him Pete in New Orleans referred you. Ask him to give you a contact closest to you. I'm betting that they can beat your regular glass price.

watch this video [YT]xn9xmKsPsW4[/YT] before you decide on epoxy. I think you'll change your mind

doesn't that liquid rubber stuff turn brown when under constant submersion?

It would hold up but I'd rather not have my tank looking like a giant hot chocolate.

It may not have been the liquid rubber. But I'll look into it. The paint I ordered is still on order just held up for right now. And with xmas and all this next week it's kinda on hold with all the holiday stuff going on.

As for Using the acrylic. I haven't seen anyone close to the regular glass price yet. If you can get a price better let me know. I need 1" thick for the height I have. But I'm also partial to glass for its scratch resistance. I plan on using sand in my tank and it would be very easy for it to scratch up the window.
