What type of fish is that in your picture a cichlid what type don't know:irked: nice tank build needs more pics :headbang2:confused::ROFL::eek::banhim::mwave::mwave:

It's a Kribensis. Pelvicachromis pulcher.

my favorite cichlid and probably the only ones I will ever own unless I make a species specific tank down the road but not likely.

I have 2 breeding pairs at the moment. Both young and no successful batches yet. They have both eaten the first 2 batches.

Alright the holidays are over BACK TO WORK!

I went and picked up my rubber based sealing paint this morning.

Just painted my test pieces and immediately can see that the paint has an aversion to silicone.

In this first one you can see the paint slightly pulling away from the silicone.

Just a few minuets later from a higher angle the flash really shows where the paint separated.

Here is the other piece to see if silicone will stick to the paint once its cured.

Ok. Some results after a few hours of drying.

Keeping in mind this was 1 light coat. Recommended application is 2 light coats.

Test piece with silicone corner and smeared on the flat area before I started messing with it.

The paint has almost 0 adhesion to the silicone. Stuck to itself very well. Was easily pulled off with minimal effort.

After flexing the silicon corner hinge I made I noted that the paint stretches very well and shrinks back to it's original position. This is good if the tank flexes a bit.

But as with the flat piece, near 0 adhesion to the silicone corner

The 2nd test piece was just 2 pieces of plywood held together by hand while I painted them. The paint is a bit thin so it penetrated the joint. But did not adhere the pieces together at all. This makes me a bit nervous as I need to seal the joints now but will have to find something that the paint will stick to.

I applied a bead of silicone over the dried paint to see if silicone sill stick to the cured paint at all.

Will report back with findings.

If unsuccessful, I'll try sealing a corner test piece with fiberglass resin and a 2-4" strip of mat and let it cure. That will additionally strengthen my corners and hopefully the paint will stick to the cured resin. The benefit being I can rough up the resin with sand paper to help out.

I forgot to mention that where the paint was applied to bare wood it adhered extremely well. I can not scrape it off at all.

Its looking like I'm gonna have to find something else to seal the corners of the tank that can be painted over with this stuff.

My test pieces came apart easily. Minimal adhesion of the silicone to the painted surface.

And was easily able to pull off the silicone. Which feels really weird by the way.

I hope this renews everyones interest in this project. A nice overload of pictures. We are now over 8,000 views for this thread and the next post will be 200 posts long. So who is the lucky winner?
