300ish Gallon plywood - First attempt

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The Tigs only get about 2 feet according to the care sheet over at planet catfish. Which is fine since I designed this tank for lots of swimming room so it has a 72 x 32 footprint.

Started building my sump today. Got the first divider in where the filter socks will be. I want to put the bio area in but am not sure on the size of pump so gonna wait so I don't cramp myself.

Going to order the pump and filter socks sometime this week along with bulkheads and plumbing.

The plan is to get the plumbing done this week and hopefully get the glass installed this weekend so the silicone can cure for a week+ before it gets waterproofed and final sealed up.

Picture updates coming soon.

Any suggestions on pumps? Otherwise I'm probably going with a Quietone 6000 with is in the 1500GPH range if I remember right.

better think about sealing it, I would suggest ames blue max shipping is free if you order it at an ace hardward store the stuff works great my tank is about 300 gal as well

I have sealant as discussed at length earlier in the thread. I want to get all the plumbing drilled in and the glass inset then seal it so the rubberized stuff adds a double layer of protection.

The tank has landed.

The stand for the 300 has been sitting in its resting place since I built it but the tank due to inactivity got moved out the door into the game room for storage. So with a bit of cleanup and a helping hand to move a 55 gallon that was on the stand. It's back where it belongs. The 55 has been moved to my man cave and the 300 tank is back on its stand.

And it looks freaking HUGE. I love it.

Here is the tank back in its happy home.

It took about 2 seconds for the cat to move back into the tank. Makes a good size reference though. Shes about 14 pounds. Big cat. Bigger tank.

Heres the 3 tanks currently in my man cave. There is one more 55, the one that I moved off the stand not pictured. Hand built pine stands. Yeah your jealous.

I am interested in the sump. I hope you put up some pics of that process.
I have been following since the beginning and have learned so much from this build.
Can't wait to see it populated. Great job thus far, love it !

I have a buddy who has a quietone 1200 that is anything but QUIET. I mean obnoxious. Has been that way since new. I use a Mag-Drive 1200 and I love it. You can barely hear it running and it also helps that it is relativly cheap.

I'll take a look at those. Hopefully ordering all the parts this week.
