yes its real. It's a Kribensis.

scientific name is -
Pelvicachromis pulcher

One of my favorite fish from when I was growing up.

The rubber stuff is only 40 bucks so not a bad price. But I think i'm gonna go with the epoxy based as it's USDA approved and epoxy is used in many other forms to waterproof things. But it is a bit more spendy.

Ok continuing on.

Need to get the fire going in the shop this morning an get it warmed up enough to paint. Going to do a 2nd coat of the gray on the stand.

I've also got some crown molding I'm going to paint black and stick around the top edge to hide the seams of the 1" MDF and between the tank and stand. Then it will be time to attach my carry handles and move it out.

Oh and the doors. I forgot about those. That is todays to do list I guess. Update with photos to follow later.

I'll see what i can do. Looks like I may have to paint the doors in the house. I've got a fire going but its up to 45 in the shop which is too cold to paint properly.

Having uninsulated bay doors sucks sometimes.

I just found a local supplier for the Insul-X pool paint. They have the rubber based one that I was looking at that is about 40 a gallon.

They also have the Epoxy based 2 part kit in stock but it is about 110 for that. I'm wondering which would be a better option. The Epoxy kit is USDA approved!

I responded to your other thread before reading this one.

$110 per gallon is not bad for the epoxy and it is more along the tried and true since these types of epoxy paints were what were commonly used back in the 80's and 90's for sealing plywood tanks.

This particular epoxy paint is heavy on the solvent carriers. This makes them nastier to work with as far as solvent vapors (odor) but those solvents really help the product flow out well, meaning they're easy to work with assuming they are mixed properly.

It's only 62% solids, meaning for that $110 bucks you're only getting 62% of a gallon.

Another way of looking at this is that it's the equivalent of getting a gallon of 100% resin for about $175 bucks.

But there are pros and cons to each type of epoxy.

As far as the single component rubber paint, that product looks great at $40 per gallon. I just have no clue if it will work.
