Snow? Is that all the white stuff? Snow is against the law here.

I do believe it snowed in Texas not long ago....

In other news my paint should be here Thursdays supposedly so waiting on that AGAIN as they never ordered it last week. So trying to get the sump done this week but things keep popping up.

Most of this should be done by xmas time. Might have to wait until after xmas to order the glass though. Been getting quotes for it locally here and the best I've gotten is about $230ish bucks and that would put a big damper in my gifts so it might have to wait a week or two, but i'll try to have everything else done.

Ok. Put the sump box together. I decided to just do the outer box from the plywood since I all ready had it and it allowed me to get the size I wanted instead of the glass I have on hand.

I'm going to use the glass to build the baffles in it. I was going to use wood here as well but it's much thicker then the glass and takes up too much room and would also require waterproofing which would be a pain in the smaller places.

The box assembled again

I'm using short screws since its only 1/2" ply but still using 2" on center. It is much harder to pre-drill and countersink on 1/2" smaller target to hit. So I took my time.

After I was doing. I checked and found I had 0 blowouts or splits. Not bad. Guess it pays to take your time.

Here is the sump in the tank that has been moved to its future home. I put the gallon of paint next to it for a size comparison.

how much have u spent so far on this project?

About 30-40 on the stand.

The tank is at about 160. 4 sheets of plywood at 40 each.

So about 200 dollars total so far. Which isn't bad considering that a 300ish gallon tank prebuilt would cost about 1,000 and that's just the tank.

Keep in mind a lot of the stuff I'm using is stuff I had laying around. I have a woodworking shop at my disposal and knowledge of all the tools in it. So cuts down on costs now. But I should point out that there is probably 150,000 dollars in tools and equipment in this shop so that should be taken into account.

I have HUGE respect for people that do this sort of thing with just a few common tools like a skill saw and cordless drill. BassinKorea is a great example. His tank is simply amazing. I can only hope to match his quality.

Here's Bassinkorea's tank

Very nice. I appreciate the photos. I like to dabble in wood working. I have the basic tools. Your build is inspiring to Me. I want to build some thing similar soon and plan on building something like Yours.
I have subscribed to Your thread but have not commented until now. Keep up the nice work and please, keep the pictures coming!

lookin good :D im gonna follow this closely :P just got the go to build a tank at da house..

Just don't make a mess or you won't get to build another.

What size you thinking of? I should point out that plywood builds don't really become cost effective unless they are over 500 gallons or you have a special skill or access to a materiel that would cut your costs down. In my case I had and can work with wood easily.

You should be able to do it easily for under that price.

I wanted to go 8 foot but don't have the space and am on a 2nd floor. Where I'm placing the tank can handle the weight but I wouldn't be able to carry the damn thing up the stairs.
