How long to reach full maturity .... SO hard to say. Some fish never do. Some don't until they live in a tank alone with no neighbors. Some fish mature in 10-12 months. Others take 18 months to a year.

I'll say this, though....Melanurum and Synspilum, or the Costa Rican Melanurum that used to be called Synspilum, they are the fastest growing fish I've ever grown out (faster than Midas, faster than any other Vieja). The only other fish that grow as fast as Syn's that I've kept are Trimac's and Lyonsi--those grow really, really quick sometimes, too.

But, right now, I have 3 Trimacs. They were all bought at the same time, same size, from Rapps. 2 males and 1 female. 1 male is by himself in a 125, and he's 8-10 inches now and looks like a mature Trimac. The other two are in my 540, they are half his size and look like adolescent fish. I've had all 3 less than a year.

I hope mine get nice and big like yours!

Hes been extremely helpful answering all of my questions and I am very grateful for his help and knowledge. I hope to learn enough to be able to pass it on to someone else when the time comes. But you can do it! lol its tough espacially getting fish so small to begin with cause you just want to pack the tank with them since there is empty space

Thanks man. I cant wait for them to start coloring up. Looking at the pics again the lighting makes it look very red which should really be blue in color for night time. Stupid Iphone camera.

But I hope these guys turn to gold and I have no issues keeping the pair together. they are doing a little bit of chasing around occasionally but relatively normal
And that's how we all end up with overstocked tanks and have to upgrade after a years time

A 330 certainly won't be overstocked with this fish list even when fully grown
I was talking about when u get a tank and stalk it with juvenile fish that looks small in the tank and u just wanna keep adding fish until the tank looks filled lol. Wasn't saying your tanks gonna be overstocked and if it was that would be your choice

Those syns look great man.

1 yr then we start pushing polys on you
twentyleagues twentyleagues mwwaaahhahah
