330 gallon setup and sump build

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
its filling up a 100 gallon sump so it's probably to much water at one time. It's not like a little bit here and there probably. I'm going to assume that's the problem

The size of the sump should not matter IF the amount of time the ATO runs to top off is within the range BEFORE it triggers the alarm. That is, if it takes 10 seconds each time, then no alarm. If it suddenly takes more thank 30 seconds then you will have an alarm. So the question is what changed to cause it to run over 3x the time. It should not was my point.

and yep I bought at Lowe's so I could close the bed of my truck without having to worry about tying it down. Didn't need a ton of it so I just got their precut sections. Worked nice in some areas only having to trim a little bit off

I loooked at so much PVC I started to recognize differences between different various stores ;-)

Get yourself ammonia alert by seachem. Will let you track ammonia much easier than testing and it also reads only ammonia that is not treated by prime. This way you can see the true danger to your fish.
Is that the thing that looks like a color wheel that you suction cup to the tank or sump?

ah gotcha that makes sense. It's been doing it since I first installed it so maybe it can't fill up the amount it needs to?

lol that's pretty funny. I was just going to get it all at Home Depot but when I stopped at Lowe's for something and saw the precut i decided what the hell this can't hurt

Let's do a test when you can. Make sure the water level in the sump is where you want it to be based on the level of the sensor. Unplug the ATO and plug back in. At this point the next time it runs that is setting the time it typically should run for when it's topping off. Unless you mess with the level of the sump, the ATO run time should be fairly consistent and not cause it to beep. Again, the sump volume should not matter as long as the run time needed is consistent and your resivoir is sufficient.

Next time I hook it up again I'll make sure to monitor

It is. Helped with my hospital tank and I was worried about meds killings bb and causing ammonia spikes.

yes, the Seachem ammonia alert is good stuff.
