330 gallon setup and sump build

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hey everyone. Figured Id give everyone an update on the tank. It looks great and have everything fine tuned and is running dead silent with the design. Looking to add a UV sterilizer to the sump and just attach it to a power head instead of the return lines. Anybody have any reccomendations on good UVs?

Id attach a pic but the tank needs to be cleaned since I missed this last weekend leaning the acrylic!

I like you updating but I find the lack of pictures and reason for the lack weak! Lol.
Look into aqua uv.
And post some pocs man!

lol I've been MIA for a while. A lot of things going on currently. But I'll post you up some pics when I clean it out this weekend. The window in the room is taking a toll on me with the algae it is creating. Working on getting a shade to block the sun light. But will def check that out! What's new?

I've been battling some algae issues myself and upgrading my sump also. I think my lighting is to intense but i tried out my 48" planted24/7 and it seems to dim at the bottom to warrant my buying a 24" one to cover the length. I dont know. Took in some of magpie magpie fish she is moving and had to break down her tank :(. But her Ropes, del, teug, and butterflies are all happily mixing with my fish. Other then that work work and more work.

algae is such a battle. I feel like I am going swimming everytime I clean the tank. But as much as I love my planted 24/7 lights I do think they are causing some of the algae bloom as well.

You post any pictures on your thread of your new additions? And work is taking up to much of my time right now. Supposed to be the slow part of the year. YEA RIGHT

Yeah a few pics.
I got transfered to a new store. Of coarse it's broken and I need to fix it. But the original manager wasn't fired he was demoted at the same store........can you say hostile work environment. It's been 4 weeks of hell and nothing is getting done. It's mostly behind my back but a few in the store are sympathetic to him even though they've got to see he's wrong....I don't know. Now back to fish lol!

ouch that sounds rough! dont you wish you can just win the lottery and not have to deal with the BS anymore lol.

But ill go check out your thread to catch up!

also with that aqua uv there a few different options between the classic, the twist, and I cant think of the third. But I think I would be looking at something thats 15watts?

I know right.
I had this on my salt system in line before the 120g breeding racks. I had the 57w one but I think if I remember correctly that's way overpowered for fresh water I'll have to go look at the website again. Mine was the classic. It was under powered for the entire system but I was using to keep the babies safe from anything that mat have been introduced. It was over powered for that part of the system but since all the water in the system was going to go though it eventually I decided to get the strongest one I could reasonably afford. There was never algae in the breeding rack. Another issue in salt water is pest anenomies those also never reared their ugly heads in the breeder rack.

I ran a 24/7 light on my 180 and it definitely cause a lot of algae. I ended up darkening it by putting some windscreen on it.

Really. I put my 24/7 on just to see if I liked it as the 6 par 38s are cooking plants near the surface. It was really dim at the bottom of the tank looked as if the 2' depth was to much for it.
