35 gal possibility

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
not haven't yet. but because of your suggestion maybe this week or next week I'll go pay a visit. BTW where will you get your black sand? I know in a stall in cartimar which is decent seller of black sand, for the wood, I don't know, I just pick up some wood over our place and let it cure. The mark of that stall is that it's in a narrow way which has a terrarium with a good DIY drip system and only sell Flower Horns for fish. 25P For a bag, Well he said it was 2kilo but as I've got it it's like 1.75 only. lol

Yup I buy from him too! He also sells good wood. He even sets them up just to show what they'd look like in your tank. He also sells plants. I like the way his black sand looks, too. Black with some red. :D

Is there a cichlid I could keep in a 35 gal. Its going to be my first time to set up a cichlid tank and I like the idea of having a stunning main fish with other 2-3" dither fish. But if it wont fit then I'll get just smaller cichlids. I dont want a tank with only one fish. Ive been keeping flowerhorns (started the hobby) and they get boring being in a tank all alone when fully grown. I was thinking a red severum but I've read thatthey grow big. Is that right? Any suggestions? I wont be setting the tank yet. Just wanted to get some ideas. Thanks!

Red sevs get to be 10-12", so are not an option for a 35 gallon. Minimum is 55 and the vast majority of severum keepers (myself included) recommend no less than a 75 for a single severum.

My recommendation would be either 4 rams or 2 dwarf species of acara. But there are a great many more options available to you. I would recommend testing your water to find out what the parameters are best suited for which region of cichlids. Or if you had a specific region in mind already, you could do some research on species found there. Severum are south American, so I made my two recommendations based on that.

Ive been thinking that since Super red Severums grow really slow, I could grow one in a 35 gal for quite some time. Any inputs?

I have two super red sevs and they are not slow. I got them at 2" each and in just under 3 months they are both a little over 5". At that rate, assuming you get one at around 2-3", one would outgrow that 35 in about 6 months. If you can upgrade before that, go for it, but if not, I would recommend holding off until you get the tank and then get the severum(s).

Alright, thanks guys. Wont plan on getting a sev then. Am I only restricted to rams and other small fish? Cant I get a fish that would grow to about 6" and is colorful and peaceful? I really like the centerpiece fish + dither fish combo. Or is my tank just too small?
