35 gal possibility

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Okay avoid salivinis and rotkiels got it haha. The rams sound good but still I like the center piece fish + dithers and a pleco combo more. I know I cant keep 5+ angels given the tank size tho. So theyre a no no too. Have you ever heard about white convicts or toffy parrots? My lfs has them not sure what they are tho.

Thats my idea of a great tank! Could you suggest anything that is peaceful and is colorful? I really like those pearly fish and those really red or orange ones. Or if not, can I keep a group of about 4 blood parrots + rosy barbs and a bushy nose or maybe some corys?

You could get a blue acara. They reach in the 6-8" size. Would be good to think about upgrading the tank at some point, but if that is the only cichlid in the tank, it can live there for life.

If you do blood parrots, only two are going to be able to fit because of their end size of about 5". Just be careful as some blood parrots are dyed and that can make some of them incredibly aggressive with any fish you add.

I would avoid tiger barbs as dithers because they can be very nippy and you don't want a nippy group of fish constantly chewing on your center piece. Rosy barbs would work though. Neons would end up being a snack eventually.

For bottom dwellers, either a school of 5-6 of the small (2-3") cories or a single small pleco (bushy nose/bristlenose is a good choice).

I have heard and seen white convicts, but not toffy parrots. I would assume the toffy parrot is just another dye they use to artificially color the fish.

I think I've made my decision. Since I cant get a super red sev, I think I'd go with a group of electric blue rams. How many could I keep? Around 4? I wont be able to sex them tho cause I'd be getting younger ones. What other fish would be good to keep with them that would be as colorful and give contrast? I was thinking some corys as dithers and a group of cardinal tetras or maybe zebra danios. Or could I keep like 2 electric blue rams and 2 other kind of ram?

4 rams would fill out the bottom layer with no room for cories. So it's either 1-2 rams with 5-6 cories or 4 rams. I personally would go with the 4 rams and then add tetras. My personal favorites are lemons and rummy nose, though cardinals work just as well. I would avoid the danios. They get very nippy and could potentially begin to destroy the fins on your rams. The rummy nose give good red and white contrast to the electric rams' blue and black. The lemons give some nice yellow and white contrast as well. You could keep a school of 8 small tetras in the tank with 4 rams and it will be full.

Alright will be searching for those guys then. :) How about a bristlenose? Or will he just make my bioload heavier? Can I keep two kinds of rams? Like electric blue and german blue or something?

I personally would skip the pleco since they create more waste than they actually clean stuff. But that is a personal stance. Adding a pleco is entirely possible and a bristlenose will work out jut fine.

As for the rams, you can definitely mix and match. They are have similar temperaments from a species standpoint. Are you interested in breeding them or is this for a show tank?

Okay no plecos. Ive had enough of plecos since I experienced my 11" pleco being territorial towards my bichirs this morning.

Im still not sure. Id want to have a breeding pair and possibly sell offspring. But if I did then I'd only be getting a pair + some dithers. I also want it to be a showtank so still not really sure. As for species, what ram do you like most? :) I plan on getting some electric blues + some of the red ones not sure what theyre called
