350 Gallon Geophagus/Eartheater Community

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
They are maybe 2" at most and to be honest, I set this thread up to just document the growth of my geo's. I do appreciate the input on aquascaping ideals and all. However, I'm not here to debate what is in the tank because geo's can be hard to classify when younger and we will have to wait and see. So, let's just enjoy what is here and now and leave the "that's this" "and I believe it's this" to those asking for id's.

Again, thanks for the great ideals and hope some don't take the above paragraph wrong at all. Just don't want this to become a thread about those arguing on what is what. It's one to enjoying the growth and development of these wonderful fish and growth and changes of the tank over time.

Yeah, at 2" I wouldn't commit one way or the other. I'd want them to grow out more before I'd be confident stating which one I thought it was. Like I said, even geo experts have issues when they are young. Post them up again when they are older, as they grow it should be easy to tell.

The tank DOES look amazing btw. Awesome job on it.

There are many people including wholesalers and and a seller on aquabid now, who sell steindachneri as pellegrini I have kept both many times and spawned them, l actually have steindachneri in the pond now, at 2 inches the two are very easy to tell apart, if you had crassilabrus and pellegrini at 2" it's not as easy...either way all 3 of the red hump complex are interesting fish....pellegrini came again around again about 10 years ago into the USA hobby, I paid $50 for inch fish, after they started spawning the prices dropped to around $20 a fish, presently I don't know of anyone keeping them, not to say they aren't around......

Hope this will clear it up for you:

Sorry to tell you but these are geophagus steindacherni. Geophagus pellegrini do not have any iridescent blues at all. I have been seeing lots of vendors online and they are starting to call steindacherni "red hump pellegrini" so you need to watch out. If they are cheap then they usually will be steins too , true pellegrini are a bit more expensive. Past time i seen pellegrinis come around they were F1 from jeff rapps about 5-6 months ago. i have not seen wild pellegrini in a very long time. Still a good looking fish though :)

Guys, he just got done saying he doesn't want to talk about IDing these fish. This is just a progress thread. Regardless of who is right and who is wrong, let's respect the OP's wishes and leave the debate alone.

He responded to my quotes saying "hope this clears it up for you" in response of mine saying the video was to far to ID the fish so I responded to his post towards me. Thanks.

Great looking tank! Did you make the background or buy it? I'd love to have one of these for my largest tank.

It's a universal 3d background and believe it was around $300.
