3fx5s on a 300??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i normally swear by my FX5's i've got 2 on one of the 210's, one on the other and one on the 180 along with various types of foam filters (mostly the ATI Hydro V pro run off air pumps and powerheads). but i think i'm getting ready to go a whole new direction and use 55 gallon barrels. my ex made a drawing and posted it on a thread here, i've been trying to find it. when i do i'll post it here.

ok, found it before my edit privledges expired.. wolf3101 drew a bio tower and a drawing of how to turn a 55 gallon barrel into a filter.

i'm not going to use a submersable pump in the aquarium though, i'm going to try to use syphon to get the water from the tank to the filter and an external pump to pump the water back to the tank. still in the planning stages though, IF i do it, or when.. lol.

lol on a reef tank you cant :) unless your blowing mushrooms off rocks (which i have done)

lol morl, looks like it could work. but if you want cheap and easy just use a rubermaid tub and a cheap drawer unit from walmart

i know it works, i've seen it in action on his brother's pond in AZ, and apparently it worked well on the pond he used to have in his back yard, but i never saw that up and running.

either way, i'm not going to abandon my FX5's quickly. they are good and dependable and move mountains of water very well.

lol yes they do. i love mine on my 93 cube. but on the 300 its just too hard to maintain

I had a wet dry and 2 xp3's on a 240 and im getting a 300tall (tall 240) and im going with out the wetdry and doing 2 fx5's. For me...the home made sump...was open and caused mold issues (design flaw). It constantly needed water added to it so it would suck air. And I had filter socks (4 4") that constantly needed to be cleaned. I just dont think the tank is big enough to "need" wetdry. So I will see how it goes with the 2 fx5's...and ill probably add one of those aqua tops for the UV and flow.

huh, I have two FX5's on my 120 and hardly ever have to clean them
