4 arowana in 55 gallon tank, lifespan?

are not aggressive to their own kind normally.
False. The males will murder each other eventually. I had two and was going to separate them when they got big enough, they murdered each other before I had a chance. They both died, one was torn to bits, the other died from its wounds. This was a crazy case though, they usually just bully each other to death.

Good idea on paper, but realistically, what would stop the owner from getting more...

Best way to probably convince them this is a bad idea is to use reverse psychology on them...

ask them if they are getting it to bring good fortune to the restaurant, and if they say yes, then say wouldn't one or more of them dying within a few weeks be considered bad luck? if he again says yes, then you could go on to explain how this is a very likely situation with 4 large fish in a small tank and go from there...

Being half Chinese i know all about how people are when it comes to superstitions in Asia... and the only way to convince them is to explain how their idea is flawed and how it could backfire...

x2 this is prolly your best approach.

I agree with the reverse psychology idea as well. Seems like your best bet, to use their superstition against them.

Aros are beautiful creatures. As to if they actually bring good or bad luck, nobody knows for sure.
But I do know this, keeping an aro in a small tank definitely will not bring good luck.

If this guy puts 4 arrowanna in this taNK HE IS AN IDIOT! Tell him the tank is suitable for 2 fancy goldfish with a weekly water change, they could stay in there for life. Otherwise tell him to stick his crab buffet up his azz!

I do... they don't. Luck doesn't exist.

I will have to try this. Sounds like it could work. He did agree that if they die he will do it my way next time. Horrible thought, to sabotage tank. Butno promise that he will.actually do it my way.

Ps this site needs a app.

I wouldn't be too worried. Most of the arowana that unexperienced fish keepers keep die before they reach a size where stunting will occur. We have two arowanas at work in a 2000g and even in that tank, the one beats the other one up on a regular basis.

We sell arowana at my LFS a lot, but most of them die before they reach 12".

Great, now if only you could convince them to upgrade the tank and or lower the number of arowanas. Not even sure how big a tank four silver arowanas would need.
Maybe they could go with one jardini if they only want an arowana since a jardini doesn't need as much room as a silver. ( please don't bite me if I'm wrong because all of my arowana knowledge is from reading)

Maybe you could point them in the direction of a used larger tank they could buy?.

You could also find a place with large arowanas, and show him how big they actually get. A lot of new fish keepers do not understand how large a foot is, until you show them a 12" fish. Often times I will tell customers how big the fish they want will get, and they think it's fine and then they see one that is half the adult size and they say, "this is how big they get?!" and end up not getting it.
