I like the barbs better but the danios are kind of entertaining... fish are nuts man chasing each other around. I guess we'll see who survives that cycling. I just put the gravel in last night and probably put the wood in tomorrow night the water that its soaking in was clear. Will both give more surface area for the bacteria to grow ? Cuz I still have no nitrites what can I do to speed this up add more danios or just leave it alone and be patient... I want to get the jd in there now !! hahahaah

The gravel& wood will help bb,,the cycle is gonna take a couple weeks ,,,,the only way to speed it up is seeded media

im surprised they haven't figured out a way to sell seeded media. Maybe the lfs will sell me some

You can buy the bacteria in bottles, I used fritz-zyme but I've heard cycle is good as well. Just pour some in your tank substrate and your bio meida and that will jumpstart the cycle.

seeded media seems like a good sell ... but the transfer of any parasites or disease seems possible..hence the lack of retail interest ..imo

Yeah but right lp not a good get rich quick scheme....

I heard mixed reviews about bacteria in a bottle... something to the effect of it being different bacteria that would eventually compete with the "regular bacteria"

i never heard that. So far I've had no problems.

I honestly don't know anything first hand about chemical bacteria starters....opinions vary....

Yeah no get rich quick schemes.... heard the bacterial in a bottle would end up competing with the regular bacteria and you would have to keep using it... don't know if that true though
