I just saw that the wood you got has slate attached...you most likely won't need to boil it ...something like that is "probably" safe.... just soak until you get the tannis out (color)and put it in the tank.. if you do boil it try and keep the slate out of the boiling water...unless you know it's safe to boil slate...I think it probably is ,,,somebody that knows for sure might post:popcorn:

just saw this well I boiled the crap out if it and have it soaking. The second boiling the water wasn't as tanned though. I had no idea about boiling slate... I did ...and didn't lose an eye so I guess its ok lol

the other day my wife came home with two tiger barbs from petsmart hate there fish and tank always dirty. Anyway one of them never acted right didn't act like the other ones. Last night I notice that the right side of its mouth was swollen so this morning so I put the fish in a clear glass so I could inspect it closer (not that I know what the hell I am looking for hahha) but did notice is was swollen and kind of reddish gonna keep it out of the tank. Is there anything I should do as a precautionary measure, my concern is have an illness in the tank when I am done cycling and ready to put in the "real" fish (salvini or ebjd)

If you think it's sick then I wouldn't put it back in until it's been better for about a week. My striped raph has had something for 2 months and unfortunately I don't have a quarantine tank so luckily nobody else is sick, yet. If you don't have quarantine and he is suffering id euthanize him, if you have a tank for quarantine id treat him, not sure with what but somebody will come tell you I'm sure.

Ps, I know you've done your research but just so you know, ebjd are very sensitive to bad water. I'd personally do a salv or maybe even two plus the Asian bb, by that's just because I like salvinis.

Yup I know the ebjd is iffy but I wanna give it a try. If not definitly a sal.

Im more concerned with the overall health of the tank for when the sal/ebjd asian bb get thwre should I do anyrhing ahead of time?

for that sick little barb.. find a clean container ,,bigger is better (up to 10 gal..) melafix for a few days..and daily 50% wc's (I know you prob don't have filtration)..even a 5 gal bucket will do...I wouldn't put him back in the tank till he's 100% for at least a few days:) airiate if you can(air pump & stone, if you have one on the 40 you could use it..) you could use a little aquarium salt ,too (ice cream salt from grocery store is cheap &works)

Already got rid of the barb but lfs has this little ebjd that they are going to hold for me unstill the tank is cycled I don't think it is 100 % ebjd but may have some of the genes or could be a reg jd that has nice patterns but he's gonna look great in there. Toy guys think I should keep the danios too ? I think it would be too much bio load 1 ebjd/jd (whatever the heck he is) the asian bb cat 6 giant danios and four tiger barbs also 5 little guppy size danios
Pic isn't clear cuz he was moving he also choked down on a bunch of worms

Yeah, that probably would be to much. I'd do 1 EBJD, 1 ABBC, and which ever of the dither schools you like better (I'd go danios but that's just my preference).

x2 on the danios ,, unless you really like the barbs.....although I HAVE 2 small cichlids ..5 black skirt tetras and 3 rainbowfish in a 40 ..that's real similar to what you plan now ,, but I built up to it
