I am planning on siliconing the seams for a little extra protection (peace of mind). Do you think I should do it after all the coats of epoxy are done or before the last coat of epoxy goes on?
It's not necessary, but if you wanna do it do it after. Silicone is flexy when cured, and epoxy isnt. If you put epoxy over it, it would eventually crack.
Personally, on a tank of this size, my first choice would be 3 Eheim 2262's with intake bulkheads on the back wall. This would prevent the filter intakes and outflows from showing. Then they would all share a single spraybar that runs across the whole back of the tank. Basically, you would put 2 elbows on 2 bulkheads in the tank and put a pipe in between them. Then you would do the obvious plumbing on the back to connect them all into the look. I would fill the eheims with an inch of foam, one pad of blue bonded, and the rest eheim ehfi substrat. Of course, this would cost anywhere from $2000 to $2500. To save over $400 per filter, you could use pot scrubbies instead of ehfisubstrat and add ehfi substrat as time goes on. Using pot scrubbies the setup would require about $1750 in filters and scrubbies.
The practical solution, as the above would be a dream solution for me, would be 1 2262 filled with 3-4 inches of ehfimech, 2 inches of foam, and a blue bonded pad. The rest would be a mixture of media, 1 part ehfisubstrat, 2 parts fluval biomax, and 3 parts scrubbies. This whole setup would probably top out at around $600.
There are soooo many options out there for filtration.
