47g Column Project - Tank Journal

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Sponges shouldnt do any harm, and some cells probably died off during the transfer, but these little guys are tough.

Its easy to grow a whole tank colony of them from only one tiny little living relative. I Have lots too.

Good to know, thanks fleshy

Not the best pic since it was the middle of the night, but I caught one of my nerite snails trying to escape the other night...

I knew jawfish were escape artists, but I didn't suspect the snails

I have never had one do that, but I have had them climb right up to the top for some reason...still dont know why they do that.

Maybe its lack of algae and they figure that they can just crawl over to the next tidepool?

I've got a big Christmas update for everyone...

Thursday we went to my favorite LFS to pickup a few things and of course had to see if they'd gotten any new livestock in. Ended up seeing a zoa frag ('casino chip' zoas according to the manager, but I'm not up on my names) that I liked and couldn't resist picking it up since things have been going pretty well with the tank. So here is my first coral in the tank after acclimation and a Seachem Reef Dip treatment...

Also, while we were there I noticed that they got 2 blue spot jawfish in. I have never seen BSJF there before, and one in particular looked very vibrant, active, and curious. I managed to hold myself back since I still haven't gotten my glass lid notched for the skimmer and my QT is still housing my latest batch of Congo tetras. But all I could think about that night and the next morning was that jawfish and my fiance offered to buy it for me for Xmas, so I made a proper-fitting lid the quick and ugly way...

...and made a trip back to the LFS

Happy Holidays

Everything looks good man, merry christmas to you!

My buddy wants a bluespotted...your substrate looks a little coarse to me, but it looks like he dug in without any problems.

GL!

thanks! The pic of the substrate is a bit misleading, its mostly finer stuff but that all settles to the bottom leaving the coarser material on top. Its supposed to be soft-belly safe and burrower friendly.

Well he was busy last night - not constructing the narrow burrow I expected, but instead excavating the entire front of the rock structure. I'm so glad I built the rock column on the glass instead of the sand....

It looks a bit ugly and the water is cloudy from all the sand being stirred up, but he seems happy with his work

Wow, that is simply awesome.

Tank is looking great, and so is this fish. Glad to hear that he is settled and already making himself a new home.

I find that bluespotteds dig more of a ditch than a hole as well.
