500 Gallon Peacock Bass Aquarium

Thanks for trying to help! I have read this, and several others since dealing with this outbreak. The normal tank temperature is 88F for precisely stopping reproduction, but thats what the temp was when the outbreak occurred. There are other references that note that death occurs at 89.5 F, hence why I have bumped to 90F.

I have also read several following your issue with ich you are doing the right thing, the little guys will pull through pbass are tough fish :)

Tonight: Close to 90% WC, gravel vac, temp back to 90F, added salt, installed UV, and dialed down FX5 to hopefully kill anything in the water column. 36W UV on a 29 gallon is a bit overkill, and it makes for a good nightlight...:nilly:

On the upside, they have a good appetite right now! First time in a week that they have ate all of the usual size meal they were getting before.

Is it for sure that UV kills ich? If so I need to keep one on the tank

UV can kill ich, but only in the free swimming stage, and typically requires a much lower flowrate than algae or bacteria. This is the same as 90F heat, which should kill free swimmers. As you increase temp you shorten the life cycle, shortening encysting stage, and hopefully killing the released swimmers before re-encysting occurs and hence stopping the outbreak.

I used a little bit of quick cure and i mean a small amount i cant beat the meds when you have them on hand. Only when my juvie peacock gets ick since hes still on feeders. I mean everyone has there own ways, so do what your doing and they should pull out any signs of it getting worse or better?

When i came back from vacation my big peacocks got ick as well since one of my heaters broke after my friend fed them they got ick since the temp was at 75degrees. They had it bad but i added alot of salt and my two new heaters to the tank bumped the heat to 85 degrees and added the quick cure with the salt and it was gone within three days.

The little peacocks look great and i hope all goes well.
Good luck with the new setup.

Hope they are pulling through for ya now. SOunds like your doing all you can...now its the fishes turn.

2 more died last night, loosing hope they will recover. Dropped temp to 86F, left UV on, but full flow because I don't want to risk oxygen decrease while I am away today. I'm going to start 75% WC and gravel vac everyday now. Almost at the point of feeling like giving up.

Wow that's an awful strain of ich you are fighting, don't give up!
