500 Gallon Peacock Bass Aquarium

Tank drained and stage one of the aquascaping is complete (if driftwood remains tied down after adding water). Just need to add in the hanging driftwood/plants and see how it looks before some small tweaks probably. Time to take a break (aquascaping is a workout when you have to climb up a 6 ft ladder, hop in the tank,acrobat around existing aquascaping, hop out, hop in, over and over again. Maybe I'll get some filtration online tonight to clear up the PFS that has been sitting in a container for 6 months!
 
The large piece of driftwood was about to pop up, so I had to jump in a foot of freezing water to rescape with some more counter weights, hopefully it will hold now. The small piece also started to float, but I'll just sink that in the bathtub, because it will sink, the large piece never sank before.

Checked on the orinos, temp between 91-92F, so I dropped it just a bit. The one that looked bad earlier is getting worse, has a dark mark on the top of the body connecting to the tail that was not there before. It's becoming more and more obvious how pale the fish is, and becoming a bit listless in the flow. I think it will be an 8 pack by morning. I got lucky last night and woke to find one flopping on the floor next to the aquarium. I have since covered up the small opening that apparently several have found. These guys really want to jump, but I can't blame them with the amount of ich on them. Hopefully the others are showing improvement by morning.
 
Already an 8 pack, went back a few minutes later and the baby of the group (3") was dead. Rather discouraging, I think I'm doing what I should be, but still feel like I let the little guy down.
 
It seems like you have a very resistant strain of ich, maybe you could try some sort of medication to treat the tank i dont know i just hope they make it. Good luck

Thanks for your concern. From what I've read here, natural ways of fighting (heat & salt) are more recommended than meds, because juvi cichla seem to be prone to die with meds. If they don't respond to the 90F temperature bump by Tuesday, I'll be sticking the UV filter on and zapping the buggers.

Thanks for trying to help! I have read this, and several others since dealing with this outbreak. The normal tank temperature is 88F for precisely stopping reproduction, but thats what the temp was when the outbreak occurred. There are other references that note that death occurs at 89.5 F, hence why I have bumped to 90F.

I don't have a good answer to that, other than I was hoping heat and salt alone would work. It's already installed in the new system, but I may move it tomorrow. This morning the tails appear to have less white spots, so hopefully this is the turn around point.
