500 Gallon Peacock Bass Aquarium

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Back from my trip. The 10 pack is now a 9 pack due to a jumper. Of course they can find the only square inch of the aquarium near the heater that isn't covered. Also going through another ich outbreak. Most likely due to not having a WC during the week, but the are all eating a lot and seem ok. Treating with salt again and waiting it out.

Tomorrow starts the 2 week push without wife and baby to complete the transfer. Hopefully they will get healthy soon and be moved into their new digs!

whats your temp at? Did they get really skinny during the break? Are you puttin a UV sterilizer on the new tank? May be a good idea.

Temp has been constant at 88F, they didn't look skinny when I returned. The new tank will have a 36W UV filter on it, just never installed it on the grow out.

Completely finished the polishing of one half of the aquarium today. A couple more days and I'll be completely done. Forcing myself to make time every day to get this thing finished! The rest of the aquascaping materials arrive tomorrow, and I hope to set all that up and start cycling next week.

The orinos still have a lot of ich spots on their fins, tail and bodies. Been performing large water changes everyday now for several days, maintaining at 88 F and treating with salt. Water parameters test good, they are eating and acting normally, just waiting for the spots to start to decrease. It's been 4 days now since the first sign.

RE: Ich, you should keep the lights off also

So 7 days now and they still have ich, it looks no better or worse. I have been performing gravel vac and WC every other day, treating with salt at 1 teaspoon/5 gallons and keeping the temperature at 88F.

Increasing salt now to 2 teaspoon/5 gallons and thinking about taking temperature to 90F. Any better recommendation on salt amount?

I don't understand how they still have it with temp above 86F where reproduction is not supposed to occur...lots of lots of flicking on everything in the aquarium and many always huddled in a corner. Still eating well though. I've been keeping lights off too, but so far nothing seems to be working. This is so much more resistant than the last outbreak it seems.

On the polishing, I've completed everything now but one final pass with the fine scratch buffing solution. I plan to finish that and get everything cleaned out this weekend.

YOu have an airstone in their as well i remember reading....how big are the wc's you are doing? Id say just keep doing what you are doing. Maybe try and add a UV sterilizer to the tank.

I use fist full of salt when adding salt. I do use it reguarly when doing 75% W/C I do these 2x and sometimes more a week. You are correct get the heat as high as you can the Cichla will be ok at up to 92 deg. What is your current water changing schedule? I know gangster already asked but I am sure you could increase the amount and frequency.

I think they look a little better this morning, but its hard to tell.

No airstone, just both FX5 outputs to the top of the 29 gallon. There is a lot of movement, so I'm not concerned about O2 level in the water.

I've been doing about 75% WC every other day, basically leaving just enough for them to stay a float. I'll keep everything as it is for one more day and then bump temperature to 90F if there is no sign of change.
