Hey DB I have my tank up and running, fish are in it but I se to have a dead spot smack dab in the middle of the tank. How did you route your return and are u running any power heads or air stones in the tank?

Fish in? Congrats man! Let's see some pics!!!! How is the RFS working?

My tank is a 10x4 foot print. I have (2) 4300 gph pumps returning to the tank. One 1.5" line runs to each end of the tank. That line has (4) 3/4" jets, so there's 4 jets on each end of the tank. They sit above the water line so there's plenty of surface agitation.

I use a half dozen disc diffusers for bubbles, and (2) mag 8 korilias at one end that push to the overflow side of the tank.

Update of the 540...clearing up pretty well! Fish are all happy and healthy! Currently taking donations of female hybrids or king marbles! Haha, thanks for all your help guys, still tinkering a little bit with a few things. What kind of gph are you dripping in large tanks? Have you ever calculated what it costs to run a tank of this size per month?

I'm having troubles with my nitrates being about 80ppm. My amm and trite are both at 0. I'm no where near over stocked and feeding every other day. 113L of k1 for bio. My RFS isn't collecting a whole lot of poo and my filter socks don't have any either. My socks are turning brown in 2-3 days. I have a 4' overflow box and doesn't seem that it draws touch current. I'm moving about 35-4000k gph but is it possible that the poo is stayin in the tank and breaking down in there? Tank has a hair brown hue to it when the lights are off. Any suggestions?

Try checking the bottom of the overflow Chamber for detritus.

How old is the test kit? I'd get a new one to be sure. Old kits test Nitrates way higher then they really are.......

If I would have thought a little deeper when I built the tank, which I didn't, I would've had to of my overflows pull from the bottom of the tank. Oops

You still could- just put a 3 sided box over the bulkhead fittings..... I did this with one of my bio reactors. Just cut the overflow box out and flipped it upside down and glued it.

Or just hook sanitary "t"s to the bulkheads then run tubes down.......
