Put a African pike in there

I hate buying from huge chains...that being said I went into petsmart for some food, and I always look at the tanks and saw a 2 inch fragile sen bichir, probably just lost his external gills, being picked on by tiger barbs. I just had to save him haha, growing him out to go in my 55..He really needs to fatten up because I feed earthworms to my other senbigger then the litte guy! Also some one suggested a bgk, they can get up to 18 inches+...not really good for a 55, go with the african brown

Actually if you want a BGK, you could get one. They get about 12 inches in home aquaria...in the wild they get 18-20 inches though. Other fish you could get are a African Brown Knife or an Elephant Nose. All of those are fun to have but they are nocturnal and rarely come out when the light is on.

I went ahead and bought frozen foods for them. Blood worms n mysis shrimp... so i planned on mixing them together; it will be a protein of 8%. Any suggestions or tips on how to feed? never had bichirs or fed with frozen food b4. BGK would be cool i gotta do some more research on them b4 i make my mind up

for feeding my BGK and bichir i noticed where they like to hang out during the day and when the lights go out at night i would put the food near the hideouts to make it a littel easier to find... i feed frozen bloodworms and i first thaw them in a shot glass for about 20-30min then slowly fill the glass until its about to overflow then i can put it underwater and pour the bloodworms out right where i want them...

for a BGK i'd suggest getting one about 4" or so, maybe bigger if you can... they tend to be very slow growers. and the bichir could possibly turn it into a snack if he outgrows the BGK to quickly. but they'll eat frozen bloodworms as well all day long. and are some of the coolest fish i'v ever owned

Well jus got thru the first feeding. took a cube of blood worms another of mysis shrimp. combined them. then put them n a bby syringe. worked really good i was able to shoot the food right in front of them. my sens went to town on tht crap!!! good to know they r gona b good eaters. even seen one nibbling on an algea wafer! The angels r doin good the went crazy over the flakes! Took pix tonight will post them asap.

Pleco update: well jus watched one of my sens literally swim circles around my common. all he did was bat his tail @ em. so hopefully tht whole situation goes good! the sens r small enough it looks like the pleco could slurp one down like spagetti lol.

congrats on the first feeding, it can be a nervous one. my bichirs eat alge wafers, sinking pellets, masivore pellets, blood worms and have had a few freeze dried shrimp so they'll pretty much eat anything

plecos have been known to eat the slime coat off bichirs so just be careful there

Pix of the 55 as promised. please dont mind the algae didnt realize there was tht much of it till i took the shots! Will have to get tht cleaned up 2marrow. guess the pleco isnt doin his job!
