55 gallon predator tank.

Also curious, are there any puffers that would fit in a tank like this?

There are PLENTY of freshwater puffers that could liveout their lives in a 55G, problem is most of them tend to be smaller and grow to max 2-3" in length, and do not mix well together or with other fish...

Most mid size freshwater puffers that would fit in your tank and that can somewhat co-habit together tend to be like owning a pet rock and rarely move...

So if a puffer is really the direction you decide on, let me know and i'll list some that can fit in your tank fir life...

Yes, if you want to setup a brackist water tank but eventually you will do full salt on those brackist puffers.

Not true at all, its just that the 2 most commonly sold puffers that tend to be labeled as Freshwater species is GSP and F8's which require High end and low end brackish water respectively...

I don't want a puffer that won't move around any and I don't think I want to go with a dwarf :( I want a predator that's relatively active and fun to watch. Are there any puffers that I could use this as a grow out tank for? And then buy a bigger tank down the line? I'd also only be looking for freshwater puffers. I've never had a salt water aquarium before

How about some guppies?
All jokes aside, red wolf is pretty cool

True true, but I still just want to measure my options. Bc I'm really not sure what my options besides a red wolf are
I know you want "monsters" but a community tank could be cool.. Cory catfish, lightly planted, angel fish, tetras?

I saw some people also house electric catfish in a 55 for while, then would need to be upgraded

The only large puffers that are active are the Fahaka (needs 180G+ Min) & MBU (needs imo 600G+ min)

So neither puffer is suitable for a grow out, unless you already have said final home in place and ready to go...

Honestly I just like the more aggressive predatory fish that are fun to watch eat. I might be able to pick up a 75 gallon eventually. But right now all I have is the 55gal. And predator wise. I guess I'm fine with either singular predators or small group predators. How many African cichlids could fit in a 55?
African aren't predators....
