i will be getting setting the tank up with in the month then giving it two more months to cycle then slowly start to add fish

peacock bass
gars
jaguar cichlids
oscars
stuff like that should do fine for a while if you get them young

Yeah, but they all eventually need 100+ gallons.

Purple spotted Gudgeons are awesome, very active and don't get too big.

I just thought I'd keep it going and suggest a Lung fish. I dunno 55? I'm just throwing this out there... Firemouth, JD, EBJD, a lima could call it home for a long time.

ive been thinking and this is what ive come up with
x1 tiger oscar
x1 common plec
x1needlenosed gar
x1black ghost knife
x2pictus catfish

keep in mind that the oscar would go into a bigger tank once he reaches about 8 inches but the oscars i saw at the lfs was only 3 in and the needle nosed gar was about 8 inches already... would they be fine together or would the gar kill it? thanks for the help SpJc11

In a 50 a common is fine but cannot turn around in a 55, look at their dimensions, a common grows to 15"
