if you want more then 1 or 2 fish in the tank id go with a lil smaller cichlids like Convicts,Firemouth or Salvinis

i just want to find a fish that has neat patterns/colors that gets about 7 to 10 inches
then Salvini is the way to got it would be best to get like 4 or 5 Salvini till you have a pair and sell off the others and you can breed them

i want it to be entertaining also during feeding time just so i dont get bored with the fish i plan on maybe breeding some cons or mollies for feeders for a snack occasionally
EBJD. Ours is a riot to watch at feeding time, especially when feeding blood worms. Plus, the are beautiful fish, if you find a good one. And, they get along with everyone else in the tank.

u could do this stocking
1 JD
1 severum
1 firemouth
1 blue acara

those are great fish, but I would think you're pushing the limits of a 55G to keep all four together . . .

Firemouth and Blue Acara could be very nice together . . . also JD and FIremouth could work nicely

is there a chance that you could keep the 3 in the same tank?

I wouldn't recommend it. Those firemouths will get their fins ripped off by a JD or GT. They don't get as big and aren't nearly as aggressive.
