55gal Stand and tank build

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
So i spend $70ish on the tank, $10 on the wood $20 on the lights and $20 more on the heater and then i need to find glass tops. And then i don't get a filter with it too. So that would cost alot more in the long run

MFK market place it up. That's what it's there for. I just picked up 2 200W heaters for 10$ each from the market place. 20$ is what I spent on my own lighting. For a 125g tank. You certainly shouldn't need the same amount for less than half what I have at 55g so knock that 20$ down a bit. You can make wood tops and use acrylic or glass from Home Depot at very cheap prices for light inserts. So, your quotes are a bit high but it's easily dueable.

That being said, I'm just giving you other options since you're getting frustrated with waiting for this Petco. You could always wait for them or check out other LFS. ;) I don't know about your Petsmart locally but I do know anyone I've ever been to can order you whatever you want when it comes to tanks and have it in a week. That's ridiculous if Petco is telling you they can't tell you when they'll have more in.

If you have a petsmart closeby, they will pricematch the PetCo price as well
I have one near me and i called them, they don't carry the aqueon kit but they carry the top fin one. I asked but they wouldn't price match it for me.
A Petco kind of near me (not the closest one but like 10 miles more) is hypothetically getting more in on friday so i am going to give them a call then. If they don't have any, the one near my is hypothetically (lol) going to get more in on monday. unless they don't get any in their shipment like last monday. So i am not sure if aqueon is having problems of what...:cry::cry:

Well they wont price match because its not the same brand... Try looking for one online and see if theyll do it. Ask to speak with the manager as hes/shes the one that makes the decision.

+1 Talk to who's in charge. You're potentially trying to give the people over 100$ as a customer and they just told you off that easily? Manager those guys.

I can't believe you are having such a hard time getting a 55g complete setup in your location. They have at least 2-4 of those little aquaon complete setups at every lfs here and my lfs selections suck.

EDIT: Oh, and on a side note... I noticed you didn't enclose the top of your stand in the back or front. If you revise it and add a lip on the back to add a few more inches for front to back, or depth, many standard 75g and 90g are only 4 ft long and make up for the gallons in depth and height. If you were to find a craigslister with such a tank (which is a common size for some 75 and 90g) you could sneak in the extra gallons with out Mom and Dad knowing.

Yea! Even the extra 6 inches of depth on a 75 can make your fish selection broader

I think that my dad might notice 6 inches of tank sticking off the back of the stand because he designed it to be exact....sadly lol

What are your stocking plans?

Yeah, what are your stock plans? 75g or 90g would be much more options. Not to mention it doesn't have to be as big a difference as 6." My second tank was the aqueon 55 gallon complete setup you're trying to get. I built the stand to exact and after measuring it and checking out standard 90g depth I only needed to add like 3 or 4" I think it was?... Meh'. You know they really only hear bigger when you say 75 or 90. If they know it was on the same stand maybe they'd be okay w/ it. ;)
