wow ok, its interesting the way that theres all kinds of components to getting the shots right, what do you reccommend as far as flashes, i was reading some reviews and some people said that the sb-400 is light and small but still handles most every situation needed, im thinking about trying to save some money and just get a cheap sb400 and then start saving for a 55-200 
i can see this with eds photo, while it is nicely lit by the wide aperture, the focus range is much broader in your shot btw that umbee is unbelievable, did you hold on to that guy?

why? a big aperture like 1.8 is nice because you get lots of light, but you also have a very shallow depth of field. meaning only the portion of the fish thats closest to the lens is in focus. with a big aperture, as soon as you get past the eyes and gills, the body starts to go out of focus.
